The Phoenix Suns will be on the road to take on the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday, January 4th.
The tip-off is set for 8:00 ET from Smoothie King Center.
Phoenix started off as a 7 point favorite and that number is now up to 8. The total has gone from 217.5 to 222.5.
Phoenix Suns
The Suns have had a very good season so far. All in all, I have been impressed with the way this squad has played and I only think they will get better as the season gets deeper.
In their last four games, this team is 2-2. If they are on their game, they should be able to make it 3-2 when all is said and done on Tuesday night.
Of course, their season did not end the way they would have wished last year, but there does not appear to be a hangover for them. They are solely focused on this season and doing the right things in order to win it all.
When I think of the best teams in the Western Conference, this group certainly comes to my mind. For me, the Golden State Warriors are still the cream of the crop, but I would put this bunch in the tier just below them. If those teams met in the playoffs, it would make for a helluva series.
Phoenix last played on Sunday, where they absolutely dismantled the Charlotte Hornets by a score of 133-99. I am not surprised they won the game, but I never saw them winning by 30+ points.
As you can conclude based on the number of points they scored, the offense was absolutely clicking in the win over Charlotte, as seven players ended up reaching double figures. The leading scorer was Devin Booker, who had 24 points and 7 boards.
New Orleans Pelicans
Unlike the Suns, things have not gone so well for the Pelicans this season. It is going to be a very long year for them.
New Orleans has a record of 13-24, which puts them in 14th place in the Western Conference. Unless something crazy happens, they will likely stay right around that area for the rest of the season.
Listen, I get this team is without their best player and he is certainly a big loss for them, but you cannot blame their struggles solely on him being sidelines because, at the end of the day, he is just one guy. There have to be other things that are taking place in that locker room that we are unfamiliar with because they should have a better record than 11 games below .500.
This team lost to the Utah Jazz on Monday by a score of 115-104. They were in the game for a bit, but the better team eventually just took care of their business, which is not all that surprising.
In the loss to Utah, the leading scorer for this team was Jonas Valanciunas, who had 25 points and 9 rebounds. Even though he was very effective, other players did not step up on the offensive side of the ball like they were expected to.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Suns are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against New Orleans.
- The Suns are 11-3 SU in their last 14 games on the road.
- The Pelicans are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games against an opponent in the Western Conference.
- The Pelicans are 3-11 SU in their last 14 games played in January.
Phoenix Suns vs. New Orleans Pelicans NBA Analysis:
I am interested to see how the Pelicans play on the second night of a back-to-back. It would not shock me if they came out a bit flat in this one.
The task does not get any easier for New Orleans in this game. On Monday, they squared off with Utah and on Tuesday they will once again face one of the best teams in the Western Conference. It will be a tall order for them for sure.
If you are the Suns, these are games you must take care of your business. It should not even be all that competitive when going against a team such as the Pels.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Suns ATS
I just feel the Suns will be too much for New Orleans in this game on both sides of the ball, particularly on the offensive side. When they get in a groove, it could be a long night for the Pelicans’ defenders.
Phoenix has been good ATS when going against the Pelicans as of late and I look for that trend to continue here. For me, the 8 is not too high to lay because I do not see this being all that close of a game when all is said and done.
