Phoenix is looking to polish off a three-loss month in Minnesota on the final day of February.
The Suns lost big in New Orleans at the start of the month and then in close games to the Nets and Hornets. They won the eleven others.
That includes Friday’s nine-point win in Chicago. The Bulls became the eighth team Phoenix has held under 100 points this season.
Devin Booker and DeAndre Ayton scored 22 apiece to lead the Suns. Chris Paul was the Point God with 15 dimes and just three turnovers.
Frank Kaminsky scored 15 points in 13 minutes off the bench. He isn’t putting up the biggest numbers of his career but he’s playing more efficiently than he ever has before, when considering his shooting splits and assist-to-turnover numbers.
Minnesota Timberwolves
Minnesota, by contast, has won just twice this month, at least going into Saturday night.
The Wolves are in Washington to play the Wizards, who are playing their best basketball of the season.
The losses don’t seem to bother Minnesota, which is at least two games worse than every other team in the NBA. After picking first in the 2020 NBA Draft, Minnesota may be in line for the most ping-pong balls in the 2021 Draft Lottery.
Head Coach Chris Finch is still looking for his first win with the club. Minnesota fired Ryan Saunders and hired Finch, forgoing the “interim” label to name him head coach.
Actually, the last time Minnesota won was two weeks ago, when it was in Toronto against Finch, who was on the Raptors’ bench as an assistant.
