The Phoenix Suns look to continue their 8-game win streak when they visit the Twin Cities on Monday night. Surprisingly the 9-3 Suns are only a -4 point favorite vs. the 4-8 Timberwolves in this matchup. Is that a sign that oddsmakers are luring bettors in on the Phoenix side?
The Timberwolves are back from a 1-3 trip to the West Coast that included a 107-83 win over the Lakers last Friday. Minnesota is 2-5 at the Target Center though and even though the Suns are expected to be without big man Deandre Ayton is that enough for the T’Wolves?
Phoenix Suns
It’s really hard to go against the Suns right now, as they’ve shaken off a 1-3 start (due largely to rust from a long playoff run last year) to rattle off 8 straight wins. Their offense has put up 115+ in five of the last six, while the defense has clamped down to allow 94 and 89 points in the last two.
The Suns are #6 in offensive efficiency this season and #8 in defensive efficiency. That’s the kind of good coaching and strong play that travels well. Phoenix is playing the second leg of a back to back, but they breezed to a 115-89 win over the Rockets on Sunday.
10 players had at least a dozen minutes on Sunday vs. Houston and Devin Booker had the most court time with just 31:33. That means this should be a team that is about as rested as you can be on the b2b, especially in a matchup of the #7 and #8 teams in pace.
Booker managed 26 points in 31 minutes on Sunday but the most impressive showing was JaVale McGee, who had 19 points and 14 rebounds as he continues to fill in for Ayton. McGee making Karl-Anthony Towns work on defense is going to be huge for this matchup.
Minnesota Timberwolves
There are mixed results on the Timberwolves recent visit West of the Mississippi. The suffered an OT loss to the Grizzlies to kick off the stretch but also beat the Lakers (in a game Minnesota was favored in). There’s also a 13 point loss to Golden State and a 27-point loss to the Clippers on the trip too.
Either way the Wolves are back home, but that’s not necessarily a good thing as they’ve dropped five straight at the Target Center. A few of those were against good teams (LAC twice, Denver) but that also includes a 98-107 loss to the Pelicans and getting blown out 115-97 against Orlando.
The biggest bright side from the recent road trip is that 2nd year player Anthony Edwards continues to come into his own for MInnesota. Edwards exploded for 48 points in the loss to the Warriors, and also had a 27 and a 21 point game on the stretch.
Karl-Anthony Towns also put up a 25 and a 29 point effort over the last four games but he was held to just 8 points and 8 rebounds on Saturday against the Clippers. Minnesota was playing on the back to back in that contest, so a sub par performance wasn’t unexpected.
D’Angelo Russell also dropped 30 in the loss to Memphis and had 22 in the win over the Lakers so the Timberwolves have a trio of competent scorers. That hasn’t really translated to success this season though – even (or especially) at home.

Free Phoenix Suns vs. Minnesota Timberwolves NBA Prediction:
Is the spread lower than expected because Phoenix is on the back to back? That really shouldn’t matter because the Suns coasted to a win over the Rockets on Sunday and have a great chance to do the same in the Twin Cities to start the week.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Suns -4
This game definitely looks like a trap, but Phoenix is playing so well right now they are worth the risk.
