Monday, December 13th finds the Phoenix Suns facing the LA Clippers in their first this season. The squads will face each other four times in total this season playing in Phoenix on January 6th and February 15th with the second LA match on April 6th.
The Suns last played on Friday defeating the Celtics 111-90 while the Clippers needed dramatics Saturday to pull out the 106-104 victory versus the Magic.
Last season, the teams played three times with the Clippings taking two of the three contests. The Suns hold the all-time record having bested the Clippers in 133 or their 227 matches.
Phoenix Suns
With the Warriors losing to the 76ers the idle Suns take over the best record in the association by a half-game. They are what I would call a professional team that plays to their identity. A well-oiled machine if you will.
Every single player knows their role and plays to it regardless of who is on the court and when someone is out like Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton were Friday the next man up is fully versed on what to do in order to keep the pistons of the machine functioning smoothly.
Credit to head coach Monty Williams and floor general Chris Paul. More than anyone these are the two men who make this team function.
Whoever led the charge in Houston to call Paul over the hill and suggest stars couldn’t work with him (look in a mirror Harden) should be forced to air a formal apology.
Barkley is spot on that CP3 is the best leader in sports and he’s continually showcased that fact but this Suns team fits him like a glove. There isn’t the animosity that existed in LA or Houston and he even looks more at ease in Phoenix.
In the beat down of the Celtics, the Point God posted a quiet 10 points, 12 assists double-double with three rebounds, a steal, and two blocks. Those 12 dimes found many of his teammates as six others scored in double-figures.
JaVale McGee replaced Ayton and registered a double-double of 21 points and 15 rebounds plus two blocks. Cam Payne (17), Cam Johnson (16), Jae Crowder (16), Miles Bridges (14), and Landry Shamet (10) were the other double-figure scorers.
Ayton (illness) is day-to-day while Booker (hamstring), Abdel Nader (knee), Frank Kaminsky (knee) and Dario Saric (knee) are all out.
LA Clippers
An elbow contusion kept Paul George off the court for their thrilling win over the Celtics and nailbiter against the Magic. If he can’t go Monday it puts LA in the downward position (even if Booker and Ayton are both out again).
Without George, the Clippers needed Reggie Jackson to hit a clutch shot with 2.2 seconds remaining to secure the two-point victory. Jackson led the team in scoring with 25 points.
Luke Kennard had a career night hitting seven (of his 11 attempted) 3-pointers and also notched a season-best 23 points. As a team the Clippers shot 50 percent from the perimeter (18 of 36).
Terance Mann scored 16 points adding nine rebounds while Ivica Zubac was the only other double-figure scorer (10 points).
George (elbow) was downgraded to out while Nicolas Batum (ankle) and Jason Preston (foot) are both questionable for Monday. Kawhi Leonard continues to rehab from the torn ACL he suffered in the playoffs.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Clippers are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games.
- The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Phoenix’s last 6 games.
- The Clippers are 4-1 SU in their last 5 games.
- The Suns are 19-1 SU in their last 20 games.
Free Phoenix Suns vs. LA Clippers NBA Prediction:
This is the first time these teams have played since the Conference Finals and it’s the type of game PG13 gets up for, so downgrading him to doubtful is either Ty Lue gamesmanship or cements the fact he’ll be out which clearly favors the Suns.
