Monday, December 5th, the Phoenix Suns and Dallas Mavericks meet for the second of four meetings. Phoenix will host again on January 26th and Dallas on March 5th. The Suns won the October 19th contest 107-105.
The Suns are completing a back-to-back set having routed the Spurs 133-95 on Sunday while the Mavericks thumped the Knicks 121-100 on Saturday in Madison Square Gardens.
Last season the teams played three times with the Suns sweeping the series and holding a current 10-game win streak versus Dallas. The Suns hold the all-time record having bested the Mavericks in 95 of their 169 matches.
Phoenix Suns
Chris Paul remains out for the Suns yet it hasn’t’ mattered with Phoenix 9-4 in his absence and Devin Booker playing some of the best ball of his pro career.
On the season Booker is averaging 29.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 5.9 assists but without CP3 he’s up to 30.7 points and 6.6 assists in those 13 matches.
It was a quieter affair for him Sunday (20 points, 8 assists) but Deandre Ayton picked up the slack registering a double-double (25 points, 10 rebounds) while Mikal Bridges added 20.
Opponents score 108.3 points per game ranking fifth while they shoot 46.1% from the field ranking ninth and rank 17th on opponent perimeter percentage –36.4 percent.
Offensively, Phoenix made some leaps upward after Booker’s big scoring nights landing in the top third of all three main categories. Phoenix scores 116.7 points per game to rank seventh.
From an efficiency standpoint, they shoot 48.1% from the field and 38.6% from the perimeter ranking eighth and third respectively.
Chris Paul (heel) and Torrey Craig (groin) are questionable. Jae Crowder (trade request) is away from the team and Cameron Johnson (knee) is out indefinitely.
Dallas Mavericks
Luka Doncic put on a show at MSG offering 30 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists, but it was the 3-point shooting of his teammates that blew the game open.
Dallas scored 24 deep balls led by Tim Hardaway Jr. who connected on 8 of his 13 attempts. Spencer Dinwiddie, Maxi Kleber and Reggie Bullock all made three while Luka hit four.
The Mavericks score 110.6 points per game ranking 20th overall and ranks 17th for both field goal percentage (46.8%) and perimeter percentage (35.1%).
On defense, the Mavs rank fourth for opponent scoring allowing 108.3 points per game with foes shooting 48.0% from the field and 36.4% from the perimeter ranking 24th and 22nd respectively.
Kemba Walker (newly acquired) and Christian Wood (illness) are questionable.

Free Phoenix Suns vs. Dallas Mavericks NBA Prediction:
Although the Suns have the rest disadvantage they weren’t overly taxed Sunday with Booker logging the most time (28 minutes) along with reserve Ish Wainwright.
Dallas performs so much better at home (9-3) while the Suns are under .500 on the road (4-5).
Luka had that look in his eye this weekend that says he knows what is being said about his club and sure looked to be on a mission. Odds are defeating Phoenix is also high on his list of to-do’s but I think this comes down to the final shot so I’ll take the points.
