2019-2020 NBA Previews – Suns Odds
Looking for 2019 Phoenix Suns Predictions? It seems like the Suns have been in rebuild mode for the last ten years and nothing really changed last year as they only managed 19 wins. Things definitely could change this year as the Suns have brought in many quality free agents and hired a very good head coach to lead this team into the future. This team’s core seems solid now and it is not a big stretch to imagine them getting out of last place this year and possibly even finish 13th or 12th in the western conference if this team finds chemistry early on.

This team looks to be significantly better this year as they addressed so many problems they have had in recent times. One of the main ones is experience and dependability at the point guard position which the management certainly has addressed with the signing of Ricky Rubio who is a solid level headed point guard who is still capable of leading a solid offense.
The problem for the Suns in terms of wins and losses this year is that they play in the Pacific division which has 3 legit contenders to win it all with the Lakers, Clippers and Warriors. Despite improvements that are made with the Suns it may not show in the win column as they won’t have a single game against those teams where they are favored with the bookies this year.
Phoenix Suns Strengths:
Room to Grow
The Phoenix Suns are a really young team and I think a lot of these players will take a big step forward this year. Deandre Ayton had an awesome rookie season last year averaging a double-double with around 16 points and 10 rebounds per game. At 21 he has not reached his peak and could take yet another step forward to become one of the premier centers in the league.
Devin Booker also seems to be the complete package, but he also has room for improvement at 22 years old. If he look at his season-on-season stats you can see his points per game goes up every year he has been in the league. For me, it is not crazy to imagine him taking yet another step forward and becoming an out and out elite superstar in the NBA.

Strong Point Guard Play
Once again the Suns have not had a real strong point guard for years now, but they now get Ricky Rubio and that should transform this team from an offensive standpoint in 19-20. His stats do not jump off the page when you see them, but he is an experienced level headed guy who will seriously benefit being surrounded by the abundance of young talented guys around him.
Phoenix Suns Weaknesses:
Defense
This Sun’s defense was atrocious last year and it is hard to imagine it getting much better this year. They are young, so some slacking on the defensive end might be expected. It should not be this bad, though, as Devin Booker ranked 499th in defensive rating last year and is certainly a liability on that end of the floor.

It doesn’t end there as Ayton and Oubre are both tied for 475th in defensive rating and it is hard to imagine some kind of magic drastically improving these guys in the offseason. One of the key stats where there poor defensive play becomes most apparent is the defensive rebound percent.
They were only able to haul in 68.3% of their defensive rebounds and it goes without saying that that is not a recipe for success.
Phoenix Suns Betting Prediction: 24-58
It is so hard to be optimistic about this team given the division and conference they play in. If this Suns team played in the east it wouldn’t be crazy to imagine them fighting it out for the 8th spot, but this is not the eastern conference. All the teams in their division will be hungry night in and night out while they fight for playoff positioning.
I do think this team will be improved off last year, though, as I think their defense can get marginally better with the new head coach and free agent signings and I can see some of these younger guys taking steps forward. This team won’t make the playoffs, but I see them winning 5 more games than last year despite the tough division.
