Friday, November 25th the Philadelphia 76ers play the front side of a baseball set versus the Magic in Orlando with the second game on Sunday the 27th. Philly will host the teams on January 30th and February 1st.
Wednesday, the 76ers finished a back-to-back set following up their impressive shorthanded victory versus the Nets with a 101-107 loss versus the Hornets.
The Magic finished a baseball set in Indiana where they were swept by the Pacers losing Saturday (113-114) and Monday (102-124).
Last season, the squads played four times with the 76ers sweeping the regular-season series. The Magic holds the all-time record having bested the 76ers in 79 of their 125 matches.
Philadelphia 76ers
It was inevitable the 76ers would suffer a letdown after the Simmons bowl. With the team playing on consecutive nights no doubt, the players were exhausted both mentally and physically although they made the Hornets work for the win.
Once again Doc Rivers was dealing with a shortened bench relying on Tobias Harris to lead the way despite nursing his own bumps and bruises. The forward offered 19 points and five rebounds while Shake Milton flirted with a triple-double (22 points, 9 assists, 7 rebounds).
While Harris has taken heat for not producing to the level of his contract it’s important to recognize just how much his role has changed.
When he originally came to Philly he was the second scoring option behind Embiid given Ben Simmons’ preference to be a playmaker and not necessarily a primary scoring option.
James Harden’s presence and Tyrese Maxey’s ascension as part of the Big 3 relegated Harris to the fourth or fifth scoring option depending on the matchup.
This season, the 76ers score an average of 108.6 points per game ranking 27th. Philly shoots 46.7 percent from the field and 37.3 percent from the perimeter which ranks 16th and ninth respectively.
Defense is where the 76ers make their mark ranking third-best allowing 106.6 points per game. They possess the best perimeter defense holding opponents to 31.5% and fall in the middle of the field for opponent field goal percentage (46.8%) tied with the Thunder in 18th.
Joel Embiid (foot), and Matisse Thybulle (ankle) are questionable. Tyrese Maxey (foot), James Harden (foot), and Jaden Springer (quad) are out indefinitely.
Orlando Magic
Rookie Palol Banchero has missed seven consecutive games and the longer he remains out you have to wonder how much ground Bennedict Mathurin or even dark horse Jaden Ivey are gaining on him in the Rookie of the Year race.
Presumably, he’ll return shortly, (the updated injury report lists him as probable) but remember how Cade Cunningham’s ankle injury resulted in him taking a while to heat up, and by the time he did Scottie Barnes and Evan Mobley had put distance between them to lead the race for RoY hardware.
Banchero affects all aspects of the game so currently has a big edge to win RoY, but again, he can’t afford to miss too much time especially if his challengers continue to improve or in the case of Mathurin if the Pacers end up nabbing a playoff berth.
Offense remains the issue for Orlando as they average 109.5 points per game ranking 22nd overall. They are tied with the Jazz in 12th shooting 47.0% from the field and rank 21st for perimeter efficiency shooting 34.3%.
Defense is their stronger suit as they hold opponents to 113.5 points per game ranking 15th. The Magic are tied with the Lakers and Hawks in 11th for opponent’s field goal percentage of 46.3% and rank eighth for perimeter efficiency (34.1%).
Cole Anthony (oblique), Wendell Carter Jr., and Moritz Wagner (foot) are all questionable for Monday. Markelle Fultz (toe), and Jonathan Isaac (knee) are out indefinitely.

Free Philadelphia 76ers vs. Orlando Magic NBA Prediction:
In a rarity, the Magic are the favorites clearly based on the key injuries of the Sixers but Embiid could be back and his return will have a bigger impact on Philly than Banchero’s will for the Magic.
