Saturday, March 27th finds the LA Clippers hosting the Philadelphia 76ers for the first time this season.
This is the first time Doc Rivers will face his former team on their home court since getting fired this past offseason.
The 76ers hold the all-time record between the clubs with 73 wins in 132 meetings. Last season, the teams played twice each winning one contest.
The 76ers were among the busiest teams at the trade deadline but failed to land the one player they coveted. Philly got into a bidding war with the Lakers and Heat for the services of Kyle Lowry.
.In the end, none of the clubs stepped up to offer a satisfactory return and the Raptors kept Lowry. Daryl Morey didn’t stand pat, however, instead electing to add George Hill who is a more economical alternative with similar skills.
The second player in the trade coming from the Knicks is Ignas Brazdeikis. Terrance Ferguson goes to the Knicks while Tony Bradley, second-round picks from 2025, and 2026 plus and a trade exception went to the Thunder,
Philly last played Thursday in LA when Danny Green and Dwight Howard received their championship rings. It was a night of ups and downs as Howard was also ejected after collecting his second technical foul.
The 76ers won led by Danny Green’s 28 point effort. Seth Curry (19), Tobias Harris (17), and Shake Milton (12) were the other double-figure scorers.
Prior to Embiid’s current injury the 76ers were 2-5 in games he was out this season, however in this segment are 6-1.
Like the 76ers, the Clippers knew they needed to make a tweak at the trade deadline. And, as I’ve noted repeatedly here, adding a veteran point guard was essential.
In a recent preview I noted:
What the Clippers are in desperate need of is a traditional point guard who excels at playmaking, can defend, and is a vocal leader the players would respect.
Lawrence Frank did make a move adding Rajon Rondo who isn’t necessarily a 3-point shooter but checks off all the other boxes the Clippers needed to address. Lou Williams was sent back as compensation.
The 76ers are on a four-game win streak with the most recent victory occurring versus the Spurs on Thursday.
Serge Ibaka (back) and Patrick Beverley (knee) have missed the last two and three games respectively and are questionable for this game.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The 76ers are 6-4 in the last 10 head-to-head meetings.
- The 76ers are 9-1 ATS in the last 10 meetings between these clubs
- The over/under is 4-6 in the last 10 contests between the clubs
- Clippers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games.
- The total has gone under in 4 of the Clippers’ last 6 game
- The 76ers are 9-1-1 ATS in their last 11 games.
Fre Philadelphia 76ers vs. LA Clippers NBA Prediction:
Emotions should be high on both sides although if the Clippers can’t beat an Embiid-less 76ers squad then they have bigger issues than just adding a point guard.
