Philadelphia has the top record in the Eastern Conference and Detroit the worst. I am not seeing the venue making much of a difference here.
Philly has been playing very well. It is hard to know whether it is the lineup changes or the new coach though.
It is easier to tell why Detroit is not very good. Their roster is very limited and really only one player is playing well.
Philadelphia 76ers
Philly is a good team. We knew that coming into the season. The moves they made were about trying to get further in the playoffs so we will see.
The 76ers have also been helped out by scheduling early on. 10 of their 16 games have been at home. They have also played almost exclusively in the Eastern Conference.
Joel Embiid is having a really good season and the goal is to keep winning while keeping him healthy for the playoffs.
We are still not seeing any real development in the game of Ben Simmons. You would think he could develop some confidence in his shooting. His scoring is down.
Seth Curry has been exactly what the doctor ordered shooting it from deep. He has missed a few games but is making almost 60% of his threes. That is awesome.
Dwight Howard has also been a solid addition giving them some rebounding and toughness off the bench. He can also be good enough on nights they rest Embiid.
Philly has it going right now but we have seen that in the regular season before.
Detroit Pistons
Detroit looks like and is playing like the worst team in the league right now. They are playing Philly twice in a row too.
Jerami Grant continues to the be lone bright spot for the Pistons. It is amazing the way his game has grown this season and he has to be on the list for the most improved player.
They are going to have a hard time trying to contain Embiid. Everyone does but they don’t really have the size to do it, and they don’t have anyone who can make him work on the defensive end. Miles Plumlee is an effort energy guy.
It is hard to see how the Pistons get more competitive. Grant is already maxed and I don’t think Griffin can reach the gear he had earlier in his career.
