On Friday, April 16th, the Orlando Magic meets the Toronto Raptors who won both prior contests with the first occurring on January 31st (115-102) and the second on February 2nd (123-108).
Last season, the squads played four times with Toronto sweeping the season series and hold a current seven-game winning streak versus the Magic. The Bulls hold the all-time record having won 49 matches of the 93 played.
Orlando Magic
Coming into this match the Magic are riding the wave of a victory over the Bulls which ended a six-game losing streak.
This helped out the Raptors who are the team directly behind Chicago in the standings and by virtue of their win over the Spurs closed the gap between themselves and Chicago.
In the win versus Chicago, six Magic players scored in double-figures with James Ennis leading the way (22 points). Wendell Carter delivered a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Gary Harris and Michael Carter-Williams each scored 15 points while Terrence Ross (11) and Cole Anthony (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
Orlando is one of the teams who’ll benefit from this season with their own first-round pick as well as the Bulls (protected 1-4).
That should equate to two lottery picks for the Magic who are in a full rebuild but still have quality players in Markelle Fultz and Jonathan Isaac set to return from injury next season.
Mo Bamba (hip) and Otto Porter Jr. (foot) are both day-to-day. Fultz and Isaac are both out for the season.
Toronto Raptors
Every time it seems like the Raptors are raising the white flag to give up they end up winning a game that seems destined for the loss column.
On Wednesday, they were had ONE point guard — a rookie Malachi Flynn available and no shooting guards. This because Kyle Lowry was inexplicably held out for rest again while Fred VanVleet served his one-game suspension (from the Lakers altercation). Gary Trent Jr. (ankle) and DeAndre Bembry (hamstring) were also out.
This resulted in some funky lineups that featured three centers and two forwards. The resulting effect is the Raptors were more physical. Toronto outrebounded the Spurs 54-42 and won the points in the paint battle 48 to 36.
In this match, both Lowry and VanVleet should be back however a constant that should carry over is additional playing time for 10-day contract signee Freddie Gillespie as well as former Magic buyout Khem Birch.
Aron Baynes played 12:25 versus Cleveland and hasn’t touched the floor since. All season the Raptors’ main issue has been at center particularly with rebounding. But with Gillespie and now Birch the Raptors have won the glass in three of their last four matches.
The big question is with Toronto finally getting healthy and Zach LaVine now expected to miss time due to health and safety protocols the path is clear for the Raptors to go on a run and get into the play-in tournament.
Trent (ankle), Bembry (hamstring), and Jalen Harris (hip) are all questionable for Friday.

Free Orlando Magic vs. Toronto Raptors NBA Prediction:
While the Magic played spoiler versus the Bulls they had more incentive since they own their draft pick. Theoretically, the Raptors should continue their dominance versus Orlando. Then again, every time the Raptors should win they’ve lost and when they seem destined to lose (like Wednesday) they win.
