Wednesday, December 8th, finds the Orlando Magic facing the Sacramento Kings for the first time this season.
Orlando last played Monday losing 85-126 to the Warriors and becoming fodder for Steph Curry’s pursuit of the all-time 3-point record. While the Kings have been off since Saturday following their second consecutive win (104-99) versus the Clippers.
Last season, the squads played twice with each winning on the other’s home floor. The Kings hold the all-time record having bested the Magic in 34 of their 64 matches.
Orlando Magic
Tough slogging for the Magic who’ve lost 12 of their last 14 matches. It almost seemed unfair the injury-depleted Magic had to face the Warriors following a rare loss when they would be fired up to get back on track.
Five Magic players scored in double figures but none produced more than 17 points delivered by Gary Harris. RJ Hampton scored 16 points in a reserve role.
Rookie Franz Wagner is one of the lone bright spots for the Magic this season. He had a strong effort filling up the stat sheet with 15 points, four rebounds, six assists, and three steals.
Wendell Carter Jr. has also fit in well in Orlando registering his 12th double-double of the season with 14 points, 12 rebounds plus three assists, and a steal.
Chuma Okeke scored 10 points as the other double-figure contributor.
Jalen Suggs is out indefinitely after suffering a fractured thumb. He joins Jonathan Isaac (knee) and Markelle Fultz (knee) who are working their way back from serious injuries. Michael Carter-Williams (ankle) is listed as questionable as is E’Twaun Moore (knee) for Wednesday.
Sacramento Kings
If the Kings could just play the LA teams constantly they might be doing better on the season. They beat the Clippers in consecutive games and also outlasted the Lakers providing them with three of their four victories in the past six games.
Hey, maybe Alvin Gentry has some LA insight so if he doesn’t lock down the full-time coaching job instead of the interim tag the LA clubs know who to call to add to their coaching staff.
In their second win versus the Clippers more than their own offense, the Kings did the job on defense locking down Paul George who shot 5 of 21.
Terence Davis provided the scoring boost scoring 28 points. Now that the shackles are off Marvin Bagley is also producing and dropped a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The backcourt of De’Aaron Fox (17) and Tyrese Haliburton (18) plus Buddy Hield (10) were the other double-digit performers.
Harrison Barnes (foot) and Mo Harkless (knee) are both questionable to play Wednesday while Tyrese Haliburton (illness) was upgraded to probable to suit up.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Kings are 6-4 in the last 10 head to head
- The Kings are 6-4 ATS in their last 10 meetings
- Over Under is 5-5 in the teams last 10 head to head matchup
- The Magic are 1-9 SU in their last 10 games.
- The Magic are 0-7 SU in their last 7 games on the road.
- The Kings are 5-10 ATS in their last 15 games.
Free Orlando Magic vs. Sacramento Kings NBA Prediction:
These teams both have a definitively favorite scoring quarter with Sacramento feasting in the second frame (ranked 3rd overall) and the Magic loving the final frame (rank 5th) which is understandable given they’re usually fighting to erase large deficits.
Sacramento has a decided rest advantage and its likely Gentry used that time to practice and prep for Orlando so I’m leaning to the Kings making it three wins in a row.
