Monday, November 21st, finds the Orlando Magic playing the Indiana Pacers in the second game of a baseball set. The Pacers won the initial match in a 114-113 nailbiter.
The teams will play twice more in Orlando on January 25th and February 25th.
Last season, the teams played three times with the Magic winning two of the three contests. The Pacers hold the all-time record having bested the Magic in 68 of their 120 matches
Orlando Magic
Offense remains the issue for Orlando as they average 109.9 points per game ranking 22nd overall. They shoot 47.3% from the field and 34.5% from the perimeter ranking 11th and 19th respectively.
Defense is their stronger suit as they hold opponents to 112.9 points per game ranking 14th overall and limit opponents to 46.1% from the field which is tied in 15th with the Celtics and Cavaliers and rank 10th for opponent perimeter efficiency (34.5%)
Gary Harris (knee), Cole Anthony (oblique), Wendell Carter Jr., and Moritz Wagner (foot) are all questionable for Monday. Paolo Banchero (ankle), Markelle Fultz (toe), and Jonathan Isaac (knee) are out indefinitely.
Indiana Pacers
In preseason there weren’t many prognosticators projecting the Pacers to be in the mix for a play-in seed, let alone a safe berth in the top six seeds.
As of posting, however, that’s precisely where Indy is sitting — technically sitting fifth but in a virtual tie with the Cavaliers but depending on the result of the Cav’s game Sunday could overtake them for fourth.
The debate will rage on with regards to whether this Pacers team as presently constructed should keep battling for a playoff berth knowing they probably don’t have the horses to make a deep postseason run.
It’s clear Indy has the foundation to move up the ladder with Tyrese Haliburton and Ben Mathurin being key to that progress. They also have a number of players who most elite teams would love to pick up to bolster their depth.
And therein lies the rub. If they don’t move some of their assets they could end up securing a playoff berth but be out of the running for the coveted top draft pick Victor Wembanyama and potentially mired in the middle ground.
Whereas moving Buddy Hield immediately opens the starting spot for Mathurin giving him much-needed reps and experience with Haliburton. Arguably, the Pacers will be the team most eyes are on at the trade deadline as their choices could impact numerous clubs.
As for their current situation, Indy scores the fifth most points per game (116.4) shooting 46.0 percent from the field tied with the Grizzlies for 22nd and 37.6 percent from the perimeter tied with the Warriors for seventh best.
Defensively, they allow opponents to score 114.9 points per game (19th) while limiting their foes to 45.6% from the field (7th) and 38.1% from deep (25th).
Daniel Theis (knee) and Chris Duarte (ankle) are both out indefinitely.

Free Orlando Magic vs. Indiana Pacers NBA Prediction:
Indy should easily win this match – but then again, with the club exceeding expectations they have to be careful of the trap game. They learned that lesson on Saturday barely eeking out the win so presumably won’t make the same mistake twice.
