Friday, January 22nd finds the Orlando Magic and Indiana Pacers playing their first game of the 2020-21 season.
The Pacers hold the all-time record between the clubs with 64 wins in 113 meetings. Last season, the clubs played three times with Indiana sweeping the regular-season series.
Orlando Magic
Despite Jonathan Isaac being lost for the season, Orlando was confident they would take a step this season based on their depth and constancy. True to fore, the Magic got out to a hot 6-2 start.
Then Markelle Fultz tore his ACL and the Magic lost six consecutive games. Orlando was headed to seven in-a-row when rookie Cole Anthony stole the ball and got up a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to beat the Wolves 97-96.
Mo Bamba is one of the players who had COVID-19 in the summer but since his recovery is still dealing with health issues. He is listed as questionable for Friday.
Michael Carter-Williams (foot), Chuma Okeke (knee), and Al-Farouq Aminu (knee) are all out indefinitely while Jonathan Isaac and Markelle Fultz are lost for the season.
Indiana Pacers
On February 23rd, 2020 in a match against the Raptors, Jeremy Lamb landed awkwardly on a play under the basket. At the time I remember thinking he’d definitely torn either his ACL or meniscus.
As it turned out it was both and he’d also suffered a lateral femoral condylar fracture
Given the scope of the injury, the fact he’s back less than a year later is equally surprising and impressive. To that end, Lamb made his season debut in the loss to the Mavericks on Wednesday.
He played 19 minutes (no doubt there is a minutes restriction) and was effective scoring 10 points on 4 of 8 shooting including 1 of 2 from deep, grabbed two boards, and was a team-high plus +10.
Domantas Sabonis collected his 14th consecutive double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds as well as four assists and a block.
Malcolm Brogdon (26), Doug McDermott (16), Aaron Holiday (13), and Justin Holiday (10) were the other double-figure scorers.
Despite confirmation Myles Turner has a fractured hand, he remains listed as questionable for games. Presumably, Indy is trying to find a wrap of some sort that would allow him to play while healing.
TJ Warren (foot surgery), and LeVert (kidney) are out indefinitely.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Under is 8-2-1 in ORL last 11 overall.
- Over is 18-6-2 in ORL last 26 road games.

Free Orlando Magic vs. Indiana Pacers NBA Prediction:
Without Myles Turner, the Pacers are getting exposed by opposing talented big men like Kristaps Porzingis did in their last game. While Sabonis is a walking double-double All-Star, Indy needs Turner to maintain their two-way prowess.
