Saturday, January 9th finds the Orlando Magic playing the Dallas Mavericks. Heading into the game Dallas is reveling from an overtime victory over the Nuggets while the Magic played the first game of a back-to-back set losing to the Rockets.
The Mavericks hold the all-time record between the clubs with 36 wins in 63 meetings. Last season, the teams played twice with Dallas taking both contests.
Orlando Magic
Orlando played the front end of a back-to-back with the first match in Houston which the Magic lost badly (132-90). Orlando is still reeling from the loss of Markelle Fultz who suffered a torn ACL in the match prior.

This means the Magic will be without two of their foundational core with Jonathan Isaac also lost for the season after suffering a similar fate in the Orlando bubble.
As per typical Nicola Vucevic led the way with another double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds plus three assists and a steal. That Vucevic delivered almost a quarter of the Magic offensive output speaks to their struggles in Houston.
Rookie Cole Anthony registered 15 points as the only other starter to reach double-digits. Khem Birch chipped in 11 off the bench.
After missing the initial six games of the season as Mo Bamba progressed back from the after-effects of contracting COVID-19 and is finding his rhythm. It was the first time in three appearances he surpassed five minutes on the floor playing 13:28 where he collected 12 points and seven rebounds.
Evan Fournier missed four games with back spasms while Michael Carter-Williams (foot) and Aaron Gordon (hamstring) missed the last two and one games respectively. All three are questionable for Saturday.
Chuma Okeke (knee), and Al-Farouq Aminu (knee) are out indefinitely while Jonathan Isaac and Markelle Fultz are lost for the season.
Dallas Mavericks
With the overtime victory in Denver, the Mavericks have climbed back to .500 behind a solid effort that featured 66 points in the second half that pushed the match into overtime where they bested the Nuggets 15 to 8.
Luka Doncic led his squad coming close to a triple-double with 38 points, 13 assists, and nine rebounds. His counterpart Nicola Jokic also scored 38 points.
Four other Mavericks reached double-figures including Dorian Finney-Smith (14), Josh Richardson (14), Boban Marjanovic (12), and Tim Hardaway Jr. (11).
Trey Burke missed the game versus Denver with an ankle injury and is questionable to suit up Saturday.
Kristaps Porzingis has begun working out with the team as he progresses toward a return and his season debut although he’s listed as out until the middle to end of January.

Free Orlando Magic vs. Dallas Mavericks NBA Prediction:
At season start the Magic had their offense humming but have fallen to 23rd and their defense which ranked in the top five through the early stages has leveled off to rank 13th.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Mavericks ATS
The Mavericks are making adjustments from last season where they feasted offensively but struggled defensively. This season they’ve flipped that dynamic ranking 19th offensively (although Porzingis return next week will undoubtedly bolster the situation) and seventh defensively.
