Friday, February 19th finds the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Milwaukee Bucks meeting for the second time in the 2020-21 campaign and also the second time within a week. The Thunder won the initial match 114-109 on February 14th.
The Bucks hold the all-time record between the clubs with 73 wins in 144 meetings. Last season, the teams played twice with the Bucks taking both contests.
Oklahoma City Thunder
After five tough matches in a row facing playoff seeded teams, the Thunder seemingly paid for the toll of battling in those matches with the bare minimum of players available.
The effort that made them competitive often resulting in double-digit leads was missing against the Grizzlies.
Shai Gigleous-Alexander returned after missing four games and played as if he hadn’t missed a day. He led the Thunder with 22 points plus three rebounds and six assists.
Because it was a back-to-back situation Al Horford didn’t play giving the Grizzlies a definite advantage especially when trying to slow big man Jonas Valanciunas.
Credit to Isaiah Roby who gave up major height (3 inches) and weight (35 pounds) to JV. Roby also was efficient offensively scoring 10 points on 4 of 9 shooting adding eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Darius Bazley contributed 18 points and seven rebounds while rookie Theo Maledon impressed with 14 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
As the only Thunder vet playing Mike Muscala led the reserves with 21 points including five 3-pointers while Luguentz Dort chipped in with 11 points.
George Hill is out until March and Ty Jerome (ankle) is day-to-day.
Milwaukee Bucks
Giannis Antetokounmpo fouled out on Thursday and colled a flagrant for an errant elbow on OG Anunoby. It was definitely a frustration foul as the Raptors bottled him up for the majority of the game.
The Bucks’ losing streak has reached five in a row which hasn’t happened since they did it twice in the 2016-17 season.
Not to belabor the point, but the Bucks are truly missing Jrue Holiday and his absence is exposing the vulnerability in Milwaukee’s depth and lack of defensive ability compared to previous seasons. Milwaukee is 1-5 in the six games Holiday has been out.
The Raptors employed the defense they invented to stop Antetokounmpo on their way to a championship again on Thursday and it paid dividends.
Giannis still filled up the stat sheet with a double-double of 23 points and 12 rebounds plus eight assists and two steals.
However, he also was coaxed into taking perimeter shots (0-4), turned the ball over five times, and missed six of his 13 free throws (where he should be whistled for taking between 10 and 15 seconds to shoot each one).
After a quiet first game against Toronto, Khris Middleton was more active offensively with 13 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. But, without Holiday in the lineup, Toronto increased their defensive attention on Middleton causing six turnovers.
Donte DiVincenzo (14), Brook Lopez (12), and Bryn Forbes (11) were the other double-figure contributors.
Holiday is still listed as day-to-day on the injury report.
NBA Betting Trends:

- The Thunder are 6-3-1 ATS in the last 10 head to head meetings
- Over/Under is 2-8 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
Free Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Milwaukee Bucks NBA Prediction:
On one hand, it’s terrible timing for the Thunder to face an angry, motivated Bucks squad. On the other hand, the Thunder have the rest advantage and should be buoyed by their recent victory against Milwaukee that occurred without Gilgeous-Alexander and Maledon both of whom are back.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Thunder +11
As much as this Thunder crew loves to surprise fans Antekounmpo was fit to be tied at the end of Thursday and it’s simply unfeasible to think Milwaukee could lose six in a row — isn’t it?
