Monday, November 29th finds the Thunder facing the Rockets for a home and home series beginning in Houston and finishing in Oklahoma City on December 1st.
This is the third match between the clubs this season. The teams have split the previous two games with the Rockets winning 124-91 on October 22nd, and the Thunder taking the November 17th match 101-89.
The Thunder had an uncharacteristically two-day layoff, last playing on Friday in a competitive match they lost in clutch time 99-101 to the Washington Wizards. Houston played Saturday winning 146-143 in overtime versus the Hornets.
Last season, the squads played three times with the Thunder winning two of the three contests. The Thunder hold the all-time record having bested the Rockets 117 of their 228 matches.
Oklahoma City Thunder
For a team who was supposed to be the worst in the association and tanking their way to the top draft pick these young Thunder players apparently were the only ones who didn’t get the memo.
While the Thunder are on a current five-game losing streak they aren’t exactly doing it the easy way. Through the streak, they have been in more matches in clutch time than not.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander made an immediate impact with his return to the court after missing two games with an ankle injury. In the first quarter, he was 4 of 4 (8 points) and instrumental either in scoring or assisting on 20 of the 27 points scored.
He did everything in the opening frame with five assists, four rebounds and a block although his final line isn’t as spectacular with 15 points, eight rebounds, nine assists, and a block. But what the guard will focus on is the shot that rimmed out to win the game.
Luguentz Dort scored 21 to lead scoring while Josh Giddey (11), Kenrich Williams (11), and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
Kenrich Williams tweaked his ankle in the final frame which means he’ll be questionable on Monday.
Houston Rockets
Through the initial 17 games of the season, the Houston Rockets collected a single victory but suddenly they’ve won two games in a row having surprised the Bulls and the Hornets. The match versus Charlotte was a back-and-forth affair that required overtime to decide.
All five Rockets starters plus Armoni Brooks scored in double-figures. Christian Wood and Kevin Porter Jr. each registered double-doubles to lead the effort.
Wood produced 33 points, 16 rebounds plus three assists, and two blocks while Porter offered 23 points, 12 assists, eight rebounds, and one steal.
Eric Gordon (22), Garrison Matthews (20), Jae’Sean Tate (16), and Brooks (15) were the other double-figure contributors.
Is this a trend? Or have the Rockets tanked enough games to capture the bottom ladder rung and now are intent on playing to their talent? Whether coincidental or not it’s also interesting that the Rockets have won these two games without the services of rookie Jalen Green.
While there is no denying Green’s talent perhaps having a few more players with experience is showing the Rockets how sticking to a system and playing as a team will allow them to win more games.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Thunder are 6-4 in the last 10 head to head
- The Thunder are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 meetings.
- Over Under is 4-6 in the teams last 10 head to head matchups
Free Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Houston Rockets NBA Prediction:
These next two games could be the determining factor at season end on who wins the draft lottery so there are competing objectives. Let’s assume the Rockets players are enjoying being in the winner’s circle and the Thunder sees the bigger picture awaiting in June.
