Oklahoma City Thunder
Steven Adams led the Thunder to a 110–83 win over the Detroit Pistons on Monday night. The Big Kiwi missed just one shot all night, going seven-for-eight from the field for twenty-one points, six rebounds and two blocks in the win.
The rebounding total may seem small but Adams played just twenty-eight minutes and spent most of it blocking out Andre Drummond, who had just six boards of his own and thirteen points on six-for-fourteen.
Adams, as well as the rest of the OKC starters, didn’t play in the fourth quarter because it was over early. The Thunder had a ten-point lead at the half and then went on a 15-2 run in the third to put the Pistons to rest. It was OKC’s fifteenth win in its last eighteen games.
OKC has a legitimate chance at sweeping the three-game road trip with the most difficult opponent out of the way. The Thunder plays Brooklyn on this night and then follows it up with Chicago two days later.
Terrance Ferguson returned to the starting lineup, bumping Alex Abrines back to the bench. Hamidou Diallo should be back within the next week, or so. And remember, Andre Roberson is waiting to make his return sometime in the New Year.
It also appears to be an ideal time for the Thunder to be playing the Nets, who have lost seven in a row and eleven out of thirteen. Nine of those losses have come since Caris LeVert went out with an injury.
The Nets also played on Monday and, as you already know, lost. They lost at home to the Cleveland Cavaliers, though, which suggests they might just be the worst team going in the NBA right now.
D’Angelo Russell and Spencer Dinwiddie combined for forty-eight, Russell scoring thirty of them. The front line was lost, though, and Russell just isn’t an efficient enough volume scorer in the NBA.
Rodions Kurucs scored twelve points and pulled down four rebounds in fourteen minutes. He’s been on a two-way deal with Long Island but after the game Kenny Atkinson suggested he’s considering making Kurucs part of the regular rotation.
The Nets can use all the help they can get now. They aren’t likely to get off the schnide against the Thunder without LeVert or Joe Harris, who is also out, by the way.
