Sunday, November 13th, the OKC Thunder and New York Knicks play in the first of two meetings this season. OKC will host the second match on November 21st.
Both teams played Friday with OKC absolutely pummeling the Raptors 132-114 while the Knicks defeaed the Pistons 121-112.
Last season, the squads played twice with OKC winning both contests. The Thunder holds the all-time record having bested the Knicks in 70 of their 137 matches.
OKC Thunder
In the preview for the Thunder – Raptors I pointed out the areas they both excel in but I sure didn’t expect them to be so dominant in their dismantling of Toronto.
Sure the Raps are shorthanded but it’s a rarity for Nick Nurse to concede and raise the white flag early and that’s precisely what happened. The victory didn’t even require Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s best – he got to sit and watch his teammates build the lead.
On defense, the Thunder allow 113.9 points per game ranking 18th with opponents shooting 45.9% from the field and 35.9% from deep ranking 12th and 18th respectively.
It’s amazing what one good night at the office can do for scoring and shooting averages especially so early in the season. OKC jumps from 17th in scoring all the way to 12th (113.4) after blowing out the Raptors.
Similarly, since they shot the ball well they also jump from 27th to 21st (tied with the Knicks) for field goal percentage (45.1%) and step up one ladder rung from 29th to 28th in perimeter efficiency (31.5%).
Darius Bazley (ankle) is questionable Sunday. Chet Holmgren (foot) is out for the season.
New York Knicks
RJ Barrett had led the Knicks to victory versus the Pistons with 30 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle offered 26 and 21 points respectively.
The victory once again moves the Knicks back to .500.
Diving into the stats, New York allows opponents to score 114.5 points per game (21st) and to shoot 44.0% field goal percentage (3rd) and 34.2% perimeter percentage (8h).
Offensively, the Knicks ranks 14th in scoring averaging 113 points per game. These two clubs are shooting with the same field goal percentage of 45.1% (tied for 21st).
Like the Thunder, the Knicks are struggling from deep averaging 32.5 percent which ranks 26th overall.

It’s not a back-to-back situation but the fact SGA (28), Lu Dort (23), and Josh Giddey (23) all played under 28 minutes on Friday should equate to fresher legs and an advantage in this match.
