On Saturday, December 3rd the OKC Thunder and Minnesota Timberwolves play the third of four scheduled meetings this season. The teams will wrap up the season series in OKC on December 16th.
Minny won both prior meetings on October 19th (115-108) and 23rd (116-106).
Both teams last played on Wednesday with the Thunder missing their superstar but coming from behind to beat the Spurs 119-111 while the Wolves beat the Grizzlies 109-101 in their first match without Karl-Anthony Towns.
Last season the clubs played four times with the Timberwolves sweeping the season series. The Thunder hold the all-time record with 87 wins in 130 matches versus the Wolves.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has carried the youngest team in the association producing both on and off the court as he assumed the role of a young leader.
Without him available in their last match it was rookie Jalen Williams who stepped up to propel the Thunder in their comeback effort and victory over the Spurs. Williams served up 27 points channeling SGA with his efficiency (11 of 15).
Wiliams was also named the Western Conference Rookie of the Month for November.
The Thunder score 116.0 points per game ranking sixth. OKC ranks 20th shooting 46.2% from the field and ranks 24th from the perimeter shooting 33.6%.
Defensively, the Thunder rank 28th for opponent points allowed per game with 117.4 scored. Their foes shoot 46.6% from the field which ranks 15th and 35.8% from the perimeter ranking 17th.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (hip) and Mike Muscala (finger) are questionable for Saturday. Chet Holmgren (foot) is out for the season.
Not much has gone right for the Wolves this season as they struggled to integrate their big trade asset Rudy Gobert and work out the kinks that caused on offense.
It’s no secret there has been conflict and a seeming power struggle between the established star Karl-Anthony Towns and rising star Anthony Edwards. So when KAT got injured the immediate thinking was Edwards would use this opportunity to rise up and show his mettle.
He did precisely that in the first game since KAT’s injury beating the team that knocked them out of the postseason with AntMan leading the way serving up 29 points, three rebounds, five assists, five steals, and three blocks
Minnesota is still trying to adapt to the defensive changes and that discrepancy shows via the 115.3 opponent points allowed per game which ranks 20th.
They perform better at limiting foes from the field to 45.5% which ranks fifth overall but have work to do on the perimeter allowing ‘ opponents to shoot 37.2% which ranking 26th overall.
Offensively, the Wolves score 114.4 points per game (12th), while shooting 48.1% from the field (7th) and 32.6% from the perimeter (26th).
Jordan McLaughlin (calf) and Jaden McDaniels (illness) are questionable. Taurean Prince (shoulder) is out until mid-December while Towns (calf) will be out until mid-January.

Free OKC Thunder vs. Minnesota Timberwolves NBA Prediction:
Although Minny won the two prior meetings the games were close so this is by no means an automatic W and if the Wolves underestimate the scrappy Thunder it will be at their own demise.
Much will depend on whether SGA suits up and if he does I like the Thunder to pull off the upset but not knowing that answer, I’ll just take the points.
