Saturday, November 26th finds the Thunder facing the Rockets for the first of four scheduled matches. Houston will host again on February 1st while OKC will host games on February 4th and 15th.
Both teams are participating in a back-to-back set with the Thunder hosting the Bulls and the Rockets hosting the Hawks in the front side Friday.
Last season, the squads played four times with the Rockets winning three of the four contests. The Thunder hold the all-time record having bested the Rockets in 117 of their 230 matches.
Oklahoma City Thunder
The scrappy Thunder never raises the white flag. Regardless if they trail by 20 points or if they’re fatigued having arrived at 3 a.m. in an opponent’s market for a back-to-back.
They simply don’t know how to play any other way but to fight. Which is a testament to Sam Presti’s front office, Mark Daigneault’s coaching prowess, and the leadership of budding superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
The Thunder score 116.9 points per game ranking fifth. OKC ranks 14th shooting 46.8% from the field and ranks 17th from the perimeter shooting 34.9%.
Defensively, the Thunder rank 29th for opponent points allowed per game with 118.3 scored. Their foes shoot 46.8% from the field which is tied for 18th with the 76ers and are in are tied with the Knicks in 15th for opponent perimeter percentage (35.8%).
Mike Muscala (finger) is out indefinitely. Chet Holmgren (foot) is out for the season.
Houston Rockets
Scan the teams who are stuck in the tanking cellar and ask yourself if there is another club you feel as confident about in terms of being consistent, knowing their identity, and being able to ascend once the full complement of players is on hand over OKC.
It’s sure not the Rockets, Pistons, or Magic. The only other teams of that ilk are the Spurs (because of Popovich and the existing culture) or the Pacers who might be overachieving but undoubtedly have gelled finding early chemistry.
Offensively, the Rockets score 108.6 points per game ranking 26th overall. Houston shoots 43.6 percent from the field ranking dead last while they are tied with the Wizards in 19th on the perimeter shooting 34.6 percent
Defensively, the Rockets allow opponents to score 116.0 points per game, ranking 25th overall. Houston’s foes shoot 47.9% ranking 25th while they have the 11th-ranked perimeter defense as foes shoot 35.5% from deep.
NOTE: injury updates were based on pregame Friday (I’ll update after game).
Josh Christopher (shoulder) and Jalen Green (toe) are probable, Bruno Fernando (knee) was upgraded to questionable while Alperen Sengun is doubtful for Friday. Jae’Sean Tate (ankle) was downgraded to out.

Free OKC Thunder vs. Houston Rockets NBA Prediction:
Both teams were expected to be part of the Victor Wembanyama sweepstakes but the Thunder have been competitive in the majority of their matches. The Rockets are often an entertaining match to watch but seldom are in the mix in the final frame or clutch time.
As teams approach the quarter-season mark the Rockets have just three wins – two fewer than any other club.
Theorthetically, the youngsters on the Rockets would want to use this game as a litmus test for how they measure up versus another young squad but based on their seeming commitment to having the most losses to increase their shot at the best prospect in years it’s hard to bet on them.
