Monday, November 14th, finds the OKC Thunder facing the Boston Celtics for the first of two occasions this season. OKC will host the second contest on January 3rd.
OKC played in New York on the front side of this back-to-back erupting for 145 points versus the Knicks in regulation no less (145-135) while the Celtics last played Saturday defeating the Pistons 117-108 in a match that was closer than the score indicates.
The Celtics hold the all-time record between the clubs with 77 wins in 141 meetings. Last season, the teams played twice with Boston winning both contests.

So much for tanking! The Thunder definitely is a club that never concedes a game but simply didn’t have enough offense beyond Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to stay competitive.

The Thunder got a raw deal with the whistle down the stretch against the Bucks and let it impact them as they lost 132-136 in double overtime. Then they scored 132 and 145 points collecting consecutive victories versus the Raptors and Knicks.
That trio of games dramatically affected OKC’s overall stats. Case in point – comparing their placement after 10 games to now highlights significant improvements on offense.
They jumped from 28th to 21st in field goal percentage (46.4%) and climbed out of the basement for perimeter percentage up four spots to 26th. But, the major shift was moving all the way up to 9th in scoring (115.8) from their previous 23rd rank!
In the victory versus the Knicks, they scored 43 points in both the second and third quarters with all five starters scoring in double-figures.
Unsurprisingly, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the way with 37 points (on 13 of 22) along with eight assists, five rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Josh Giddey delivered a triple-double of 24 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds.
Darius Bazley (ankle) is questionable for Monday. Chet Holmgren (foot) is out for the season.
Boston Celtics
While OKC has made major strides this past week, they still are well behind the Celtics offensively as Boston is first in scoring with 119.5 points per game.
The bean town crew also ranks high in proficiency shooting 48.4% from the field and 39.0% from the perimeter which ranks second and third respectively.
They’ll bring a six-game win streak into this contest including winning their back-to-back set versus the Nuggets (131-112) and the Pistons (117-108).
Jayson Tatum is producing on both sides of the floor averaging 32.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists shooting 38.7% from deep on 9.7 attempts per game.
Al Horford (back) was upgraded to probable, as was Jaylen Brown (knee) for Monday while Malcolm Brogdon (hamstring) was downgraded to out. Robert Williams III (knee) is out indefinitely. Danilo Gallinari (ACL) is lost for the season.

Mark Daigneault’s new tweaks to the offense have been hugely successful with the Thunder youngsters constantly moving and cutting. Boston has to be cognizant of those weak side cuts in particular.
OKC arrives in Boston with a newfound confidence stemming from their last three games averaging 136.3 points per game. The Celtics likely get the whistle benefit and have the advantage but the 11-point spread is too rich given OKC’s recent success.
