Friday, December 10th the New York Knicks and Toronto Raptors meet for the second time this season. The initial meeting on November 1st was won 113-104 by the Raptors at MSG.
The Knicks played a back-to-back set on Tuesday/Wednesday splitting the set with a 121-109 victory versus the Spurs and a 102-122 loss to the Pacers. Toronto lost a heartbreaker to the Thunder 110-109 at the buzzer.
Last season, the squads played three times with the Knicks taking two of the three contests. The Raptors hold the all-time record having bested the Knicks in 56 of their 99 matches.
New York Knicks
Two nights after a pair of Canadians brought their A+ effort to Toronto the Raptors will have to deal with another motivated Canuck — RJ Barrett. The Knicks forward recently got called out by coach Tom Thibodeau who suggested he wasn’t putting in the proper preparation.
The youngster took the advice to heart and got up more practice shots which paid immediate dividends. In the last two games, he’s shooting 76.9 percent from deep connecting on 10 of his 13 perimeter shots.
The last time Barrett had two consecutive hot shooting nights like that was October 30th/November 1st when he dropped 11 of 16 from deep (67.7%).
Barrett was the top scorer versus both the Spurs (32) and Pacers (19). Five Knicks scored in double-figures versus Indiana including Julius Randle with 18 points although it was via an inefficient 6 of 18.
Alec Burks (15), Obi Toppin (13), and Immanuel Quickly (11) were the other double-figure contributors.
Perhaps the news Indiana is shopping several players played a factor in motivating the Pacers who won all the key categories including points in the paint 60 to 44 and fast break points 26 to 16.
Toronto Raptors
Each time the Raptors appear on the precipice of breaking through they suffer another injury. Wednesday, Precious Achiuwa (shoulder) was out leaving Toronto with no true centers available or OG Anunoby who missed his 10th straight game.
Toronto led early by double-digits but also fell into long scoreless stretches. Nick Nurse juggled his lineups searching for energy ultimately settling on the seldom-used Justin Champagnie who appeared to tip in the game-winner but video replay confirmed it was a millisecond late.
Nurse uncharacteristically used the word “soft” to describe how some of his players performed. Though he didn’t specify who – Chris Boucher (22 mins) replaced Achuiwa but was the only starter not to get 38-39 minutes leaving halfway through the third and didn’t play again.
VanVleet struggled with Lu Dort’s defense but got hot late and still amassed 18 points (five 3-pointers), eight rebounds, and nine assists. Siakam produced a double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds while Gary Trent led scoring (24).
Scottie Barnes did a bit of everything with 18 points, eight rebounds (3OR), five assists, a steal, and two blocks.
Achuiwa and Anunoby are listed as questionable but Nurse said recently “OG and Birch would be out for some time”.

Free New York Knicks vs. Toronto Raptors NBA Prediction:
The Knicks are 2-5 in their last seven and playing their third game in four nights but are favored and hard not to back to cover ATS. Toronto canceled practice citing an abundance of caution for health and safety and later announced Masai Ujiri tested positive for COVID.
The Raptors are fully vaccinated but could still experience an outbreak. Regardless if it’s precautionary or due to positive tests with Toronto already shorthanded that news cemented me taking the Knicks.
