Talk about the Knicks being in a great spot. Sure they are on the road with just an 8-10 record away from Madison Square Garden, but they also get the shorthanded Spurs playing a back to back – and after an OT game.
San Antonio fought hard in the 124-113 OT loss to Brooklyn on Monday night, but did that effort cost them two games? The Spurs still have five players on the COVID list, and may be running on fumes on Tuesday.
New York Knicks
It feels like the Knicks should dominate this matchup. New York plays a tough, physical approach that has them sitting as the #2 defensive efficiency squad in the NBA. The Spurs don’t want that shorthanded and tired.
The line is a little late coming out, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see New York favored. Then again, the Knicks are the Rodney Dangerfield of the NBA, getting no respect in going on a 3-game win streak all as less than 2-point favorites.
Tom Thibodeau is starting to get the best out of this team as the Knicks buy into his system. Derrick Rose has 14+ points in four straight which has helped fueled the New York run. Anybody can go for 20+ on any given night for NYK though.
One of those guys is Immanuel Quickley, who had 25 points in a win over Sacramento last Thursday. We may see similar blowout minutes as that 140-121 victory vs. the Kings because the Spurs are very vulnerable here.
San Antonio Spurs
San Antonio is fighting right now even with five players still waiting to return from the COVID list. Since returning from a 10-day layoff last Wednesday the Spurs have lost by 3 at OKC, beat the Pelicans, and fell to Brooklyn in OT.
One would think it’s about time that recent stretch catches up to the Spurs. You’re playing some pretty fast paced teams the last two, and having to play a back to back on 0 days rest after an OT loss? Ouch.
DeMar DeRozan may be cashed for Tuesday night’s tilt after playing 42 minutes in trying to lead the upset over the Nets. That’s only been his second game back from the COVID break, although he does have 11 assists in both.
Gregg Popovich is an enigma when it comes to his minutes distributions, but you have to think DeRozan is at least a bit limited on Tuesday so who steps up? Thibodeau is licking his chops about drawing up a game plan for this tilt.

Free New York Knicks vs. San Antonio Spurs NBA Prediction:
When games are evenly matched, oddsmakers try to throw traps out there. Sometimes the matchups transcends those traps however and if the Knicks aren’t favored by at least 5 or 6 when this line comes out it’s a travesty.
You’re just simply asking the Spurs to do too much here. Play two fast paced teams then match up with a tough defensive squad while also on the back to back?
