Monday, November 21st, the New York Knicks and OKC Thunder will finish their season series. In the initial meeting on November 13th, the Thunder broke out of an offensive slump putting up 145 points in their winning effort.
The Knicks are completing a back-to-back set losing 116-95 to Phoenix on Sunday while the Thunder last played Friday in a 110-121 loss to the Grizzlies.
Last season, the squads played twice with OKC winning both contests. The Thunder holds the all-time record having bested the Knicks in 70 of their 138 matches.
New York Knicks
That the Knicks are coming into OKC as the underdogs is partially tied to the rest disadvantage. But it also speaks to the fact they aren’t considered a threat.
They’ve been fortunate to face numerous teams who were missing their top players as well as having a relatively easy schedule to start the season.
Offensively, the Knicks score 113.5 points per game ranking 14th overall. New York shoots 44.8% from the field (26th) and 31.7% from the perimeter (29th).
Clearly the moves made by New York weren’t well thought out because floor spacing (particularly for their starting unit) is terrible. Each of Jalen Brunson, R.J. Barrett, and Julius Randle operate best with the ball in their hand initiating their own offense.
And NONE of them are great 3-point shooters. In fact, only Obi Toppin and Derrick Rose shoot over 34 percent from deep (YIKES).
Defensively, Knicks opponents score 115.3 points per game (21st). New York allows their opponents to shoot 45.2 percent from the field (6th) and 35.4 percent from the perimeter tied with the Celtics in 14th.
Cam Reddish (groin) is questionable for Monday but notably, Mitchell Robinson (knee) appears to be back.
OKC Thunder
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had a cold shooting night Friday as he garnered even more defensive coverage than usual. He finished with 15 points on 6 of 18 from the field adding six rebounds, six assists, and a block.
It highlighted just how much his performance adds to the Thunder and why they are typically in so many games. If SGA comes closer to his average of 31.1 points per game – they win that contest.
The Thunder score 116.2 points per game ranking seventh. That might not be sustainable given their proficiency find them shooting 46.9% from the field (15th) and 34.2% from the perimeter (tied with Mavs -22nd)
While the offense experienced recent improvements the defense took a hit with the team allowing 116.8 points per game (27th). Their foes shoot 46.3% from the field (17th) and 36.3% from the perimeter (19th).
Darius Bazley (ankle), Isaiah Joe (knee), Aleksej Pokusevski (ankle), and Tre Mann (back) are questionable for Monday. Chet Holmgren (foot) is out for the season.

Free New York Knicks vs. OKC Thunder NBA Prediction:
While the Knicks should be rolling into OKC with a mission in mind after that embarrassing effort they allowed at home they might not have the legs to do anything about it.
Nor is it likely Gilgeous-Alexander will have back-to-back poor shooting nights. OKC is a bit banged up but had the weekend off to rest up.
Mark Daigneault is one of the best young coaches in the NBA – always having his team well-prepped and finding the perfect balance of keeping everyone invested even when they’re losing. The combination of those factors has me leaning toward OKC covering and winning.
