New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans won their first game of the New Year but have won just one of eight since.
New Orleans got worked two in a row in Utah, despite a fully healthy roster. The Jazz spread the Pels out and exposed them from the perimeter.

It looked like a fine move in the offseason to bring in Steven Adams to play next to Zion Williamson and while both are good players, the combination has its drawbacks.
Much as Williamson is a mismatch on offense, he does not move well defensively. He isn’t quite tall enough to handle NBA centers but he’s being beaten on the perimeter when opponents go small.
New Orleans can’t exactly hide Williamson on defense either because that only exerts Brandon Ingram more. Both are good on offense but it doesn’t make such a big difference if the guy they are guarding scores just as well.
Opponents are making 16.2 three-pointers per game against New Orleans — the most in the entire NBA.
Minnesota Timberwolves
Minnesota doesn’t light it up from outside, however. The Timberwolves are in the middle of the league in attempts per game and toward the bottom in percentage.
Karl-Anthony Towns is having a fine season shooting from outside when he’s on the court. He’ll miss Friday’s game due to health and safety protocol, plus this one too. Ricky Rubio is also out.
That leaves the T-Wolves down their best player, thin in the rotation and having to deal with a back-to-back in this one.
At least they are at home in both spots. Daily fantasy players can look to Malik Beasley and D’Angelo Russell — Minnesota’s two best three-point shooters — to each have a big game.

Here’s a call for little defense in this matchup.
The Timberwolves lose scoring punch with Towns out but the pace may pick up without the big man in the lineup.
