Wednesday, April 7th finds the New Orleans Pelicans playing the Brooklyn Nets for the first time this season. The teams haven’t faced each other since December of 2019.
The Pelicans hold the all-time record between the clubs with 20 wins in 38 meetings. Last season, the teams played twice with the Nets winning both contests.
New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans are one of the teams who’ve navigated an up and down season vacillating between periods of performing well and struggling to net victories.
They entered the week a half-game back of the tenth and final play-in tournament seed.
Leading up to this game the Pelicans are playing the front side of a back-to-back set versus the Hawks. Brandon Ingram remains out but Zion Williamson and Lonzo Ball are playing.
Ball returned versus the Rockets after missing seven games while Williamson is back after being out the last three games. New Orleans won that contest versus the Rockets to end a mini two-game slide and Lonzo was a key reason why scoring 27 points and hitting eight triples.
The match versus the Hawks was lost although Williamson and Ball once again had big efforts. Zion led his team with 34 points on 12 of 18 shooting. Ball produced a double-double of 12 points and 11 assists with eight rebounds.
Eric Bledsoe added 14 points while Jaxson Hayes (11) and Isaiah Thomas (10) also reached double-digit scoring
Brandon Ingram (foot) has missed the last four games he is listed as day-to-day as is Kira Lewis (calf). Nickeil Alexander-Walker (ankle) and Josh Hart (thumb) are both out.
Brooklyn Nets
The Nets won their eighth in a row at home and collected the first season sweep of the Knicks in six seasons. They had to accomplish the victory Monday without the services of most of their star additions but only needed Kyrie Irving to get the job done.
James Harden returned after missing two games due to a tight hamstring but lasted only 4:22 before needing to shut it down again.
Although the Nets have loaded up with the trio of superstars as well as picked up Blake Griffin and LaMarcus Aldridge on minimal buyout contracts the group hasn’t been on the court together.
Brooklyn is 28-10 since Harden came to Brooklyn. Yet the trio has only played together seven times (5-2). Two of the trio have appeared in 22 games (18-4) one carried the load eight times (5-3) and the Nets lost the one game when all three were out.
Kyrie Irving shouldered that burden on Monday scoring 40 points and seven assists. Jeff Green added 23 points while Joe Harris shot 7 of 11 for 16 points along with eight rebounds.
Kevin Durant (hamstring) is hopeful to get back this week. Landry Shamet (ankle) and Harden (hamstring) are out. Tyler Johnson (knee) is likely to miss two or three more weeks. Spencer Dinwiddie (knee) is out for the season.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Pelicans are 6-4 in the teams last 10 meetings.
