Oddsmakers have the Pelicans a 4-point road underdog in this matchup despite the fact that they’ve won three of their last four games. New Orleans is very bad going away though, posting just a 6-14 tally on the season.
Even though their recent struggles aren’t fully behind them, Boston has looked good in putting together two straight wins. The team could also debut their newest acquisition Evan Fournier on Monday.
New Orleans Pelicans
New Orleans has a ways to go, but they are playing better lately. Over the last 8 days the Pelicans have a win in Denver, a 17-point victory over the Lakers, and most recently beat the Mavericks 112-103 on Saturday.
Dallas was playing without Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis while the Lakers have also been without Lebron James the past week. Wins are wins though, and that’s how momentum is built.
Boston has played Milwaukee and OKC the last two games, teams that don’t really have a strong offensive post player. Monday night’s game will be a true test if it was a mistake for the Celtics to trade away Daniel Theis.
Zion Williamson should be able to continue his domination on the blocks vs. Boston. Williamson has 38 and 39 points the last two games. The Celtics are a top 5 defense vs. the PF, but that’s when they had the depth of Theis.
Could Boston be vulnerable if Fournier does play as the rest of the team is not familiar with him yet? You’d think the Celtics still have enough talent as a whole so that wouldn’t be the case.
Boston looked good in a 111-94 win over Oklahoma City on Saturday, but that’s also a Thunder team that was missing leading scorer Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
One reason to be leery of Boston on Monday is because they were absolutely dominated on the blocks by OKC center Moses Brown, who had 21 points and 23 rebounds. That’s not what you want to see ahead of a meeting with Williamson and 6’11”, 265 pound Steven Adams.
New Orleans also has the 3rd worst defensive efficiency in the league, and give up the 5th most points (114.8). Boston has some scorers, and three of their last four have gone ‘over’ the total.
NBA Betting Trends:

Free New Orleans Pelicans vs. Boston Celtics NBA Prediction:
If Fournier does play, will he get Marcus Smart’s minutes? That’s a huge defensive downgrade which could be one reason why this betting total is sky high at 230.5.
Expect a lot of easy buckets from Williamson on the blocks in this matchup. At the same time, Boston should be able to score at will against this New Orleans defense. Maybe the high point total is warranted.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Over 230.5
Brandon Ingram, Jaylen Brown, and Jayson Tatum can join Williamson with the potential of hanging 30+.
