Wednesday, January 11th, the New Orleans Pelicans and Boston Celtics play for the second and final time this season. Boston won the initial November 18th match 117-109 that Zion Williamson didn’t play in.

David Griffin deserves credit for the work he did to bolster the Pelican’s roster. That depth is the reason New Orleans remains seeded as a home-court team and has navigated the absences of their key stars.
Brandon Ingram has been felled by one of this season’s many toe injuries. This match marks his 23rd consecutive absence (27 in total).
Zion Williamson was having a relatively healthy campaign in comparison to his prior seasons but will miss a minimum of three weeks due to a strained hamstring. It’s much more likely he’ll be out a month because that projection is when the team will reassess his injury.
This is the third stop of the Pels’ five-game road trip having split the two initial matches with Detroit, and Cleveland left to play.
Offense:
Offensively, the Pelicans rank fourth for scoring averaging 117.4 points per game while shooting 47.9% from the field and 36.5% from the perimeter ranking ninth and 12th respectively.
Defensively, the Pelicans allow opponents to score 113.0 points and limit opponents to 47.0% from the field both ranking 14th while their best defensive effort is holding opponents to 34.3% from the perimeter ranking fourth-best.
Zion Williamson (hamstring), Brandon Ingram (toe), and E.J. Liddell (knee) are out.
Boston Celtics
Although the Celts haven’t looked like their best selves of late they’ve managed to weather the storm and remain seeded at the top of the East and still hold the best record in the NBA.
Offensively they’re suffering minor slips but nothing to get overly alarmed with especially given how they’re making up for it on the other side of the hardwood.
Boston possesses the second-best point production averaging 118.5 points per game. In terms of efficiency, they shoot 47.8% from the field and 37.1% from the perimeter ranking 10th and eighth respectively.
Defense:
Slowly but surely, the Celtics’ defensive stats are improving with the club ranking 13th in all three defensive categories. Specifically, opponents average 112.6 points per game while shooting 469% from the field and 35.5% from the perimeterl.
At this time Marcus Smart (knee) is questionable for Wednesday. Danilo Gallinari (ACL repair) is out indefinitely.

In preseason I felt the Bucks looked like the safer bet but given their ongoing injuries and lack of bench production, the Celtics are looking like the better bet to win the Conference.
With that, I like Boston to win this game, but also will take the points and the Pels to keep it close.
