The Timberwolves lost their sixth game in a row on Wednesday in Chicago, 133–126.
Karl-Anthony Towns, Malik Beasley and Anthony Edwards combined to score 70 together in the starting lineup. Zach LaVine scored 35 for Chicago.
Edwards has put up some pretty big scoring nights and he’s certainly flashed the sort of brilliance that have Minnesota excited for the future.
He hasn’t shot 50 percent in ten games, however. He’s shooting just 26 percent in his last five and 37 percent on the season.
Minnesota will come into this game well-rested, having two full days off. The schedule won’t be easy afterward, though. The Timberwolves return home to play the Suns the next night.
Washington Wizards
The Wizards’ hot run continues. They won their sixth game in seven games on Thursday in Denver, 112–110.
The game finished scoreless after Michael Porter Jr. got Denver to within two with 1:15 left. The two teams entered the fourth quarter tied.
Bradley Beal had 33 points and four assists with just two turnovers. He needed just 19 field goal attempts to get there because he knocked down all 11 of his free throw attempts.
Russell Westbrook notched another triple-double. Rui Hachimura had 20 on efficient shooting and just one turnover. Raul Neto played turnover-free basketball and finished with 15 points and four rebounds off the bench.
So give the Wizards two wins over Denver and one over Boston, at the Lakers, at Portland and versus Houston. This is coming from a team that was previously contending with the tankers.
So no surprise the red-hot Wizards are road favorites in this one. After beating all those quality teams, this one should be a breeze, right?
Don’t be so quick to assume. It’s still Washington we’re talking about and just when you think it’s an easy winner, it’ll turn around and disappoint big-time.
But each player has seemingly found his role. The stars are doing their part; Hachimura has taken on the role of third banana and the rest of the role players are doing jobs. That should be enough to beat Minnesota.
