Wednesday, December 1st, finds the Minnesota Timberwolves facing the Washington Wizards for the first time this season. Both teams last played on Monday with the Wolves defeating the Pacers 100-98 while the Wizards lost 99-116 to the Spurs in San Antonio.
Last season, the squads played twice with the Wizards winning both contests and holding a current three-game win streak versus the Wolves. The Wizards hold the all-time record having bested the Wolves in 35 of their 61 matches.
Don’t look now but the Timberwolves are one of the hottest clubs in the NBA having won seven of their last eight matches.
Sure a bunch of those victories was against the lower tier clubs but there are also statement wins in the group with a 12-point defeat of the Heat and a double-overtime one-point victory over the 76ers in Philly!
In the most recent win, they channeled a 12 point comeback to beat a Pacers team who’ve been playing better recently. D’Angelo Russell registered a double-double while Karl Anthony-Towns and Anthony Edwards flirted with netting their own.
Russell had 21 points, 11 assists, and eight rebounds. KAT led the scoring with 32 points, eight rebounds, and two assists but also had nine turnovers.
Edwards offered highlight-reel dunks and contributed 21 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Naz Reid (13) was the other double-figure contributor.
Minnesota enters this match with the flu running rampant through the roster and a trio of players all questionable to participate including Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, and Jarred Vanderbilt.
Patrick Beverley will miss his fourth game with a leg injury and no definitive return date.
While the Wolves are on the rise the Wizards are dealing with the trials of playing copious road games splitting their recent four-game road trip with wins versus Thunder and Mavericks but somewhat surprising blowout losses to the Pelicans and Spurs.
They return home to host these Wolves and Cavaliers prior to playing their next 10 of their next 12 on the road.
In the loss to the Spurs, all five Wizards starters contributed double-figure scoring but the reserve unit got outscored 37 to 24 which put Washington in the downward position.
Bradley Beal led the way with 18 points but shot an inefficient 8 of 21 and 1 of 5 from deep. Daniel Gafford posted a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The trio of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (17), Spencer Dinwiddie (16), and Kyle Kuzma (13) were the other double-digit scorers.
Rui Hachimura is ramping up his efforts to make a return to the court as he’s yet to make his season debut this year. Thomas Bryant (knee) as he has been for the better part of the last few weeks is listed as questionable.

Free Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Washington Wizards NBA Prediction:
Washington plays much better at home (7-2) but the Wolves have a newfound confidence and are taking each challenge on with a view of making a statement and climbing the West’s ladder. The Wizards need the win more but I’m back on the Wolves bandwagon.
