On Wednesday, April 21st the Minnesota Timberwolves will play the Sacramento Kings in the third and final meeting this season. In a rarity for this season, the Wolves have won both prior games including the 116-106 match on April 5th and 134-120 on April 20th.
The Timberwolves hold the all-time record having won 62 matches of the 119 played. Last season, the teams played three times with the Kings winning two of the three contests.
Minnesota Timberwolves
The Timberwolves are no longer seeded last with the Rockets falling beneath them. No doubt, Karl-Anthony Towns is happy to have his good friend D’Angelo Russell back on the court but it’s clear the Wolves still need more weapons.
Rookie Anthony Edwards looks like he’ll become a great fit long term but the Timberwolves are one club with KAT playing and another when he sits or is out injured.
Edwards was the top point man in the first game versus the Kings on Tuesday with 28 points, four rebounds, three assists, three steals, and a block.
Towns registered a massive double-double of 26 points and 18 rebounds along with five assists and four blocks. Russell also scored 28 points in a reserve role plus six assists.
The other double-figure contributors were Jaden McDaniels (13), Josh Okogie (10), and Naz Ried (10).
Malik Beasley will miss between a month and up to six weeks with a grade three hamstring strain. Jaylen Nowell (tibia) didn’t play Tuesday and is also expected to miss Wednesday’s match.
Sacramento Kings
This match features the same team the Kings played and lost 134-120 to on Tuesday. Harrison Barnes and Maurice Harkless led the way for the Kings scoring 20 points each.
Chimezie Metu offered 16 points off the bench. De’Aaron Fox and Delon Wright each added 14 points.
Hassan Whiteside is getting more burn with Richaun Holmes out and stepped up with 12 points and seven rebounds.
Buddy Hield added 11 points but was cold from his specialty area of the court connecting on only three of his 11 perimeter attempts.
Early in the season, rookie Tyrese Haliburton made some waves that had analysts sitting up and taking notice but now he’s back to more of a backup reserve role and perhaps has hit the rookie wall.
He still does whatever is necessary from his position such as his nine assists on Tuesday, however, his 2 of 10 shooting speaks to his potential fatigue level.
Holmes suffered a hamstring injury which kept him out the last four games and will again Wednesday.
Robert Woodard (lower back) is out Wednesday while Marvin Bagley Jr. will be out a month with a hand injury.
