It is a battle in the Western Conference on Friday when the Minnesota Timberwolves take on the Phoenix Suns. It is the second game of a back to back in Phoenix as Minnesota won last night 123-119. The Suns carried an 8 point lead into the final quarter but couldn’t finish it out and were outscored by 12 points.
It was a night for #1 picks as rookie Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns exploded for over 40 points each, only the 12th time in NBA regular season history that has happened. Towns flirted with a triple double as he scored 41 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists meanwhile Edwards continued his stretch of excellent play with 43 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists.
The initial match between these sides was won by the Suns 118-99 on February 28th so this will be the rubber match.
Minnesota Timberwolves
Minnesota holds the worst record in the NBA which is never good for any team but they have shown brief glimpses of potential. Rookie Anthony Edwards continues to find his confidence with the absence of D’Angelo Russell who remains out with a knee injury.
There are rumors Minnesota will be active before the March 25th trade deadline and one name that keeps surfacing is the Atlanta Hawks John Collins. Towns is supposedly high on adding the young player and Collins also noted it would be great to play with KAT. That doesn’t sound like a player (Collins) who expects to be remaining in Atlanta.
Towns is playing very well since returning from an injury, averaging 22.2 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Unfortunately, he is missing two of his key pieces as Malik Beasley (20.5 ppg) and D’Angelo Russell (19.3 ppg) are both out until late March. Edwards is averaging 16.2 points per game.
Anthony Edwards over his last 5 games is averaging 30.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. The rookie has appeared to slowly find his groove in the NBA and back into the rookie of the year conversation.
Phoenix Suns
The Suns got back in the win column with a victory versus the Grizzlies after their five-game win streak came to an end versus the Pacers. Even with the loss to Indy, the Suns remain hot having won 18 of their last 22 matches.
Devin Booker led the Suns with 27 points, four rebounds, and five assists while Chris Paul continues to provide solid leadership contributing 18 points, three rebounds, seven assists, and four steals.
Former #1 Deandre Ayton registered 15 points and nine rebounds, however at some point you have to wonder if Monty Williams will switch to using Dario Saric more since the Suns play better with Saric on the court both offensively and defensively.
Last night the Suns could not beat the worst team in the league at home even with an 8 point 4th quarter lead which is not promising. Furthermore, they allowed a pair of 40 point scorers which is never a good testament to your team defense.
Booker leads the team in scoring at 25.1 ppg. Chris Paul is having an outstanding season, averaging 15.9 points and 8.8 assists per game. Ayton is a double-double machine, averaging 14.4 points and 11.2 rebounds per contest.
NBA Betting Trends:

- Phoenix OVERS are 12-5 in last 17 games
Free Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Phoenix Suns NBA Prediction:
These teams just played last night and Minnesota grabbed a rare win thanks to the efforts of Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns. The duo each scored over 40 points and carried the weight down the stretch to outscore the Suns by 12 in the 4th quarter. With that being said I expect the #2 seed Suns to come out on a mission and not allow the same mistake twice. Take Phoenix.
