The Timberwolves hosted and defeated the Lakers on Sunday night. It was the right time to welcome them in. Los Angeles started Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, Brandon Ingram and then JaVale McGee and Ivica Zubac together.
Predictably, there wasn’t enough shooting to do much damage, even against a Minnesota defense missing Robert Covington. Ingram didn’t even attempt a three and neither Ball, nor the two big men hit an outside shot. Only Hart went 2-for-5.
Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns hit for 28 apiece in the win. Minnesota has won two in a row by a combined 39 points.
The run was probably more circumstantial than anything. Both games were at home against weak opponents. The Timberwolves are still missing Derrick Rose and Covington and now they hit the road. OKC doesn’t shoot it well either but it should have enough to win this one and bounce-back from a bad loss.
Oklahoma City Thunder
The Thunder lost at home to the Wizards on Sunday, though they didn’t play horribly. Well, except for Russell Westbrook. The number of shots he’s missing and turnovers he’s committing are beginning to become a problem. He went 9-for-23 and turned it over eight times — one fewer than the entire Wizards’ team.
Washington actually played quite well. It set a fast pace and barely turned it over and then killed OKC — a good rebounding team — on the boards. The Wiz grabbed sixteen offensive rebounds to OKC’s seven.
Andre Roberson could have helped with that. A setback that led to an announcement that he would be re-evaluated in about six weeks occurred about six weeks ago now and an announcement when we can expect to see him on the court again should be coming any day now.
He last played on January 27 of 2018, when he was a +32 in a thirteen-point win over the Detroit Pistons. No, Roberson isn’t a good shooter but he’s still a quality NBA player who will make his team better. I understand the fit isn’t the best but he’s still an improvement over what Oklahoma City has been using in his place. At least he won’t force shooting to the bench when he returns.

Free Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Oklahoma City Thunder NBA Prediction: OKC but not by enough to cover.
Waiting on a number here but I’m not optimistic it will be low enough to take the Thunder. Minnesota is carrying some confidence into this game, which has to count for something.
