Minnesota Timberwolves
The Timberwolves lost their fourth in a row for the fourth time this season, 103–99 to the Knicks Sunday.
Karl-Anthony Towns registered 27 points and 15 rebounds and Minnesota shot an impressive 16-for-35 from three-point range but they had two big problems.
The first was the shooting everywhere else. While Minnesota made 16 threes, it made only 17 twos, plus it took a dozen more attempts from inside the arc than it did from outside.
The other: free throws. The Wolves attempted just 21 free throws to the Knicks’ 38. That’s the kind of uphill battle a team like Minnesota faces on a near nightly basis.
It isn’t all on the referees but the recognizable stars get the calls in the NBA and the Wolves just don’t have many of those. Expect Milwaukee and its more well-known players to get the benefit of the refs’ whistles here.
Milwaukee Bucks
Milwaukee, meanwhile, jumped out to a double-digit halftime lead versus Sacramento and coasted in the second half to win, 128–115.
Tyrese Haliburton tied a season-high 23 points to lead Sacramento (his fourth 20-point game this month) but Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton combined for 70.
Milwaukee also got modest double-digits from three of its guards, who are even more important to the Bucks’ success with Jrue Holiday out. Donte DiVincenzo, Bryn Forbes and Pat Connaughton combined for 38 points.
Holiday was spotted on the bench for the first time since he went into the health and safety protocol two weeks ago. After the game, Head Coach Mike Budenholzer said Holiday is getting close to returning but he did not offer a timeline.
The Bucks don’t seem to be fazed by it. Their sights are on the long-term and the playoffs.
In the interim, Milwaukee has the next string of games at home. It should certainly be able to handle Minnesota without Holiday. There’s no rush to get him back.

Free Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Milwaukee Bucks NBA Prediction: Bucks in the first half.
Milwaukee has re-gained its footing since that five-game losing streak. It has seemed to find the formula against some of these weaker opponents: start fast and don’t worry late.
Look for the Bucks to stick to the script here, too. They will get out to a double-digit lead at the half again and make sure everyone gets their minutes in the second. That’s how everyone likes it.
