Wednesday, December 15th finds the Minnesota Timberwolves tipping off versus the Denver Nuggets in their second meeting of the season. Denver won the initial match on October 30th 93-91.
The squads will meet twice more with Minnesota hosting on February 1st and the Nuggets on April 1st. Minnesota last played Sunday in a 116-111 winning effort versus the Blazers while the Nuggets played Monday defeating the Wizards 113-107.
The Nuggets hold the all-time record having bested the Wolves in 85 of their 134 meetings. Last season the squads played three times with Denver sweeping the season series and holding a current 12-game winning streak versus the Pelicans dating back to November 21st, 2018.
With the losing streak over Chris Finch will try to get the Wolves to push forward and get on a winning streak. They’ve navigated injuries this season with both Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell missing time.
Yet the trio of Towns, Russell, and Anthony Edwards is starting to click, and dare I say my x-factor underdogs could make a run for the play-in tournament.
In their last match, the Wolves took down the Blazers to end their five-game losing streak and push the Blazers to five losses in a row. Of their 12 wins some have come against better clubs like the Heat, Grizzlies, 76ers and Lakers so the foundation is in place.
It’s more about whether this team commits to playing both ends of the court because they have no problem scoring. All five starters plus reserve Jaden McDaniels scored in double-digits versus Portland.
KAT served up a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds (five on the offensive glass) plus four assists. Ant-man led the scoring for Minny with 24 points plus four rebounds, three assists, and a steal.
Russell offered 18 points, five rebounds, five assists, and two steals while Jarred Vanderbilt (14) and Patrick Beverley (10) pitched in double-digit efforts.
Although Russell played in the last match he’s listed as questionable for Wednesday as he nurses that ankle back to health.
Having a superstar let alone an MVP caliber player can often be the difference for a team which the Nuggets are learning with so many injuries to core players this season.
The big man produced triple-double efforts in three consecutive games and just missed out in the next two short two assists versus the Spurs and a single assist versus the Wizards.
Nonetheless, his 28 points, 19 rebound double-double plus nine assists, three steals, and a block propelled the Nuggets to victory in Washington.
Denver was playing shorthanded but got double-digit efforts from Monte Morris with 22 points, plus six rebounds, and five assists. Aaron Gordon added 16 points, five rebounds, and three assists while Jeff Green added 13 points and five rebounds.
Gordon (back) is probable, Will Barton (illness) was upgraded to probable while Austin Rivers (quarantine) is questionable. JaMychal Green (ankle) was downgraded to out.
PJ Dozier (torn ACL) is lost for the season. Porter Jr. underwent back surgery with the Nuggets hopeful he’ll return this year. Jamal Murray is working his way back from a torn ACL.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Nuggets are 10-0 in the last 10 head to head
- The teams are 5-5 ATS in their last 10 meetings
- Over Under is 4-6 in the teams last 10 head to head matchups
- The Wolves are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games.
- The Nuggets are 4-2 ATS in their last 6 games..

As much as the Wolves are my dark horse to surprise in the West, and have KAT, he’s not a counter specifically on the defensive end to stop Nikola Jokic who is on a terror.
