Thursday, December 2nd the Milwaukee Bucks and Toronto Raptors meet for the first time this season. Toronto is on a season-high seven-game homestand and probably wished they stayed on the road with consecutive losses to the Celtics and Grizzlies.
They are now 2-8 at home their worst home start since 2013. Conversely, the Bucks enter on an eight-game win streak having won a thriller (127-125) on Wednesday versus the Hornets.
Last season, the squads played three times with the Raptors taking two of the three contests. The Bucks hold the all-time record having bested the Raptors in 54 of their 95 matches.
Milwaukee Bucks
Despite playing in a back-to-back set it’s not surprising the Bucks are favored especially considering how poorly the Raptors are playing at home and how decimated their lineup is.
It could be a trap game and clearly, the Raptors are keen to turn around their fortunes at Scotiabank but unless they get back one or two of the three starters who are out the Bucks could feast in Toronto.
What might help is how much the Hornets match might’ve taken out of the Bucks. Giannis Antetokounmpo took a knee to the inside of his knee late in the game which might feel worse after a late night of travel.
He played 38 minutes scoring the go-ahead bucket and came one assist shy of a triple-double with 40 points, 12 rebounds, nine assists and a steal. All five starters scored in double-figures plus two reserves.
This is the Bucks’ fourth back-to-back set and while they lost both games of the initial set it was when they were mired in injury and they’ve won both games of the next two sets.
Toronto Raptors
Through his first 15 games, Scottie Barnes attempted 13 shots from the perimeter hitting two (15.4%). But since Nurse asked him to increase his attempts he’s delivered.
In those four games, Barnes has attempted 15 deep balls and connected on seven (46.7%). It’s improved his season average to 32.1 percent. If he can keep the efficiency above 32 percent or better the Raptors will be thrilled especially once OG Anunoby and Trent are back.
And therein lies the rub. Nick Nurse has no depth to work with at the moment because three starters are out (Anunoby, Trent, Birch) and Goran Dragic has left the team for personal reasons.
Milwaukee knows how hard it is to collect wins when core members are out. They struggled without Middleton and Holiday but they have a much deeper and experienced club. While I still believe this Raptors club is far better than their record they are desperate to get healthy.
In the loss to the Grizzlies, Pascal Siakam led the way with 20 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
The league leader in minutes, Fred VanVleet logged another 42 minutes and his 3-point shot showed the fatigue. He contributed 15 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and a steal.
Barnes was stellar with 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals, four blocks, and hit half his 3-pointers (three). Watanabe was the only other double-figure contributor with 11 points.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Raptors are 7-3 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
- The Raptors are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 head to head meetings
- Over/Under is 3-7 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
Free Milwaukee Bucks vs. Toronto Raptors NBA Prediction:
Unless there is an update to the injury report that Anunoby, Trent, and Birch are back even on a back-to-back the Bucks have the advantage.
That’s not to say the Raptors won’t play with aggression or that Nick Nurse won’t have a master plan to guard Antetokounmpo but they need more players to be competitive. And even with that trio they still might not have enough.
