Thursday, May 27th the Milwaukee Bucks and Miami Heat will play their third game of the first-round series. The Bucks took a commanding 2-0 series lead via a rout 132-98 rout. Milwaukee won Game 1 in a closer 109-107 match.
Although all the Bucks did was hold serve by winning their two home games it puts them firmly in the driver’s seat. Teams who win their two opening games go on to win 93.7 percent of the time.
Only 27 of 426 teams have come back to win after falling behind 0-2.
Milwaukee Bucks
Offseason additions were the major story in the ousting of the Heat on Monday. Bryn Forbes was absolutely scorching from outside connecting on six 3-pointers including four in the opening frame.
The 3-point sniper wasn’t the only Bucks player who got hot early as the first-quarter featured 46 Bucks points, shooting 18 of 24 for 75 percent.
Forbes finished with 22 points connecting on six of his nine 3-point attempts. Perhaps the more important performance came from Jrue Holiday who demonstrated precisely why his addition was expected to push the Bucks deeper in the postseason.
Holiday collected a double-double of 11 points and 15 assists plus seven rebounds and two steals. His impact was felt everywhere on the court as he finished with a game-high plus +37 with the closest teammate being Khris Middleton who was a plus +28.
Giannis Atentokounmpo recovered from a poor shooting night in Game 1 to produce 31 points (12 of 23), 13 rebounds (six offensive boards), six assists, three steals, and a block.
Six Bucks scored in double-figures with half of those performances coming from offseason additions (Forbes, Holiday, and Bobby Portis).
Miami Heat
Game 2 was lost in the opening frame and poor starts have been an issue at times this season. Miami ranked 16th (tied Grizzlies) in first quarter scoring while Milwaukee ranked third.
Starts are the tip of the iceberg though as rebounding and overall defense, particularly in Game 2 needs to be cleaned up.
Bam Adebayo looks tentative and should be hunting his shot more, especially with Jimmy Butler being the Bucks primary defensive focus.
Adebayo took just 5 shots in the first half, finishing with 16 points with six coming at the charity stripe and he didn’t play in the final frame. Butler didn’t fare much better scoring 10 points.
Dewayne Dedmon (19) and Goran Dragic (18) offered the high point tallies for Miami.
Betting Trends:
- The teams are 5-5 in their last 10 head to head meetings
- The Heat are 6-4 ATS in the last 10 head to head meetings
- Over/Under is 4-6 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
Free Milwaukee Bucks vs. Miami Heat NBA Prediction:
Through two games 3-point shooting is proving to live up to the adage – a team lives and dies by the three. Case in point, in Game 1 the Heat pushed the Bucks to the edge shooting 20 of 50 (40%) from deep but struggled in Game 2 shooting 8 of 28 (28.5%).
Conversely, Milwaukee struggled in Game 1 shooting 5 of 31 (16.1%) then blew up in Game 2 shooting 22 of 53 (41.5%).
Rebounding is the other key as the Bucks won the battle of the glass in both games 64-51 in game one and annihilated the Heat 61-36 in Game 2.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Heat ATS
It’s a must-win game for the Heat if they want a shot of getting back in the series. Their antics in the second half of Game 2 proved they’ll be willing to be physical and it won’t be surprising if this is the chippiest game of the series.
The 1.5 point odds are a bit low but speak to the fact everyone expects this to be a gritty, physical, close game.
