Thursday, January 12th, finds the Milwaukee Bucks facing the Miami Heat in the first of four scheduled matches between the clubs. The Heat will host again on Saturday the 14th completing this baseball set while the Bucks will host on February 4th and 24th.
The Bucks will be at the disadvantage, entering this baseball set to complete a back-to-back that began on Wednesday with a 114-105 win versus the Hawks while the shorthanded Heat last played Tuesday pulling out a 102-101 nailbiter against the Thunder.
Last season the clubs played four times each winning twice. The Heat holds the all-time record having bested the Bucks in 73 of their 122 matches
*Editor’s Note: Statistics and rankings are current as of this writing, Wednesday, evening, January 11th. Numbers may vary slightly entering games on Thursday, January 12th.
Milwaukee Bucks
One of the oddest stat lines you’ll witness this season from Giannis Antetokounmpo occurred on Wednesday with the MVP candidate scoring just seven points but adding 18 rebounds, 10 assists, and a block.
Typically he gets to the line 13.2 times per game but took only four free throws on Wednesday. Brook Lopez registered a more traditional double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds while Jrue Holiday served up 27 points.
Opponents score the eighth-fewest points with the Bucks allowing 111.1 per game limiting opponents to (45.1%) from the field and 34.4% from deep ranking second and sixth respectively.
Bucks Offense
Offensively, the Bucks score 112.4 points per game (18th), while shooting 45.4% from the field and 34.4% from the perimeter ranking 25th and 20th in the latter two categories.
Grayson Allen left Wednesday’s game after spraining his ankle so will likely join Serge Ibaka (personal) as questionable for Thursday. Khris Middleton is out.
Miami Heat
Jimmy Butler and his decimated squad undoubtedly offered up an extra prayer to the basketball Gods after Tuesday’s victory. Butler took 23 free throws which were two more than the entire Thunder squad.
The Heat attempted 40 and made all of them setting a new NBA record but needed to since the game was decided by a single point.
Equally important, offensively, the Heat score 108.8 points per game (30th rank) shooting 45.1% from the field (26th) and 33.9% from the perimeter (25th).
Heat Defense
Defensively, the Heat allow opponents to score 109.0 points per game ranking second. Miami opponents shoot 47.6% from the field and 36.4% from the perimeter ranking 22nd and 23rd respectively.
The list of walking wounded remains extensive with Bam Adebayo (wrist), Tyler Herro (knee), Kyle Lowry (knee), Caleb Martin (quadricep), and Udonis Haslem (Achilles) all questionable for Thursday.
Also, Dewayne Dedmon was ejected by his own coaching staff in the last game so could face further punishment, albeit the Heat are so shorthanded it doesn’t behoove them to limit their options.
Even more news, Duncan Robinson (hamstring), Nikola Jovic (back), and Omer Yurtseven (ankle surgery) are out.

Free Milwaukee Bucks vs. Miami Heat NBA Prediction:
While several clubs have already completed their four-game season series the Bucks and Heat meet for just the first time this season. Also, the clubs will quickly counter this oddity with all four matches occurring before the end of February.
There are plenty of commonalities between these clubs who both struggle to put points on the board yet often win matches with their above-average defense. Milwaukee ranks third overall while the Heat rank eighth defensively
All in all, despite the Heat having the rest advantage unless they get back a few of their starters it’s sort of a moot point that offsets the rest differential.
