Friday, November 26th finds the Milwaukee Bucks tipping off versus the Denver Nuggets in their first meeting of the season. Milwaukee last played Wednesday extending their win streak to five games in a row with the 114-93 victory versus the Pistons.
The Nuggets were one of the idle teams on Wednesday having played and lost 100-119 on Tuesday to the Blazers.
The Nuggets hold the all-time record having bested the Bucks in 62 of their 99 meetings. Last season the squads played twice with each team winning on the road.
Milwaukee Bucks
With so many members of the starting core missing multiple games through the first quarter of the season isolating on trends for this club is virtually impossible.
Their typical starting five has missed a cumulative 50 games. Specifically, Giannis Antetokounmpo (1), Jrue Holiday (6), Khris Middleton (8), Brook Lopez (17), and Donte DiVincenzo (all 18).
On top of that quintet, key reserves Bobby Portis (5), Rodney Hood (7), and Semi Ojeleye (7) have all missed time as well.
Having Antetokounmpo healthy for all but one game certainly helped the Bucks stay above .500 but this second quarter of the season will offer a better gauge of where the Bucks are than the first 20 games did and the current winning streak points to all signs being positive.
Guaranteed their current 15th offensive rank and 12th defensive rank will improve with the Big 3 back and should climb into the top 10 (likely top 5) in both categories.
The one category this team needs to shore up regardless of who dresses is the number of opponent field goal attempts – they rank 30th allowing 92.1 shot attempts per game.
Granted, they ranked 30th in that category last season too. It didn’t hurt them in 2020-21 but it’s an area of the game you have to think Mike Budenholtzer wants to change.’
In the victory versus the Pistons, Bobby Portis registered a double-double of 28 points and 10 rebounds, Antetokounmpo was the top scorer with 33 points, and Jrue Holiday offered 22 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and a block.
Seme Ojelye (calf) is questionable for Friday. Donte DiVincenzo (ankle) and Brook Lopez (back) are both out indefinitely.
Denver Nuggets
Like the Bucks, the Nuggets have been hampered by injury but they’re dealing with missing all three of their top offensive players. Michael Malone knew he wouldn’t have Jamal Murray for a good portion (if not all) this season, but Michael Porter Jr.’s back injury wasn’t expected.
Still, the reigning Most Valuable Player – Nikola Jokic was able to keep the Nuggets in the win column. Denver was 9-4 through 13 games with Jokic missing one of those matches for his suspension.
Since then they’ve lost five in a row, with Jokic missing the last three and the two prior games presumably he was playing through the sore wrist that has sidelined him.
After this match, the Nuggets hit the road for a seven-game stretch and 14 of their next 18 matches. The good news is four of the initial seven road games feature opponents with losing records. Regardless, Denver can ill afford for Jokic to miss substantial time.
If there was ever an argument why the Nuggets center deserves to repeat as MVP it’s because of how he impacts winning.
Jokic status for Friday is questionable as is rookie Bones Hyland (ankle) was beginning to earn extra playing time due to the decimated roster.
Adding to the Nuggets’ bad luck with injuries, PJ Dozier tore his ACL in the Blazers match and will be lost for the season. Porter Jr. (back), Murray (ACL), and Vlatko Cancar (hip) are all out indefinitely.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Nuggets are 7-3 in the last 10 head to head
- The Nuggets are 6-4 ATS in their last 10 meetings
- Over Under is 6-4 in the teams last 10 head to head matchups

I’m taking the Bucks — but if there is an injury update that Jokic is playing I’d switch to Nuggets in a heartbeat.
