Friday, January 7th, finds the Milwaukee Bucks facing the Brooklyn Nets in their second meeting of this campaign. The Bucks won the initial match 127-104 on October 19th. The teams will play twice more, February 26th in Milwaukee and March 31st in Brooklyn.
Both teams last played Wednesday with the Nets riding Kyrie Irving’s debut to defeat the Pacers 129-121 while the Bucks lost to the Raptors 111-117.
Milwaukee Bucks
It was a tale of two halves as the Bucks were blazing hot in the first half scoring 77 points but Toronto held them to 3 of 21 shooting (11 points) in the third quarter as they erased the deficit and built a lead they carried to game end.
Six Bucks scored in double-figures led by Khris Middleton with 25 points, six rebounds, four assists, a steal, and two blocks. Jrue Holiday registered a double-double of 15 points and 12 assists plus eight rebounds, a steal, and three blocks but an unfortunate eight turnovers.
Jordan Nwora (17), Bobby Portis (11), and Sandro Mamukelashvili (10) offered scoring in the absence of Giannis Antetokounmpo.
It was a bittersweet night for DeMarcus Cousins as he produced a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds but learned after the game the Bucks are waiving him to avoid his contract being guaranteed.
The Bucks got bad news Thursday as Holiday entered health and safety protocols joining Pat Connaughton, George Hill, and Grayson Allen as out Friday. Antetokounmpo (illness) is probable. Donte DiVincenzo (ankle) is out indefinitely as is Brook Lopez (back).
Brooklyn Nets
Kyrie Irving made his season debut on Wednesday on the road versus the Pacers and while he looked sharp the thrill of having him on hand to help erase the deficit and collect the win will quickly fade with the team returning home where he can’t play.
The intriguing aspect of his return is how or if his presence only in road games will impact the Nets.
While his 22 points, three rebounds, four assists, and three steals were welcome additions not having him in home games means support staff will play bigger roles at home.
It may not matter but in a game where rhythm and touches often influence consistency that’s a big factor to navigate. On Wednesday, LaMarcus Aldridge (13), Nic Claxton (12), and DeAndre Bembry (12) scored in double-figures and will be crucial at home games.
Two players who benefited most from his presence were Kevin Durant (39 points, eight rebounds, seven assists) and James Harden (18 points, five rebounds, six assists).
In this first game after Irving’s debut, the Nets get some luck via the protocols with Jrue Holiday and three core contributors out.
The Nets are only missing Irving and Joe Harris (ankle surgery).
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Buck are 7-3 in their last 10 meetings against each other
- The Buck are 6-4 ATS in the last 10 matches against the Nets
- The over/under is 1-8-1 in the teams last 10 head to head matches
Free Milwaukee Bucks vs. Brooklyn Nets NBA Prediction:
With key players out for the Bucks either in protocol or due to injury even without Irving, the Nets have a far healthier roster. Milwaukee will miss Holiday most for his defensive prowess as his defensive assignment likely would’ve included time on both Harden and Durant.
That puts a ton of pressure on Antetokounmpo and Middleton to offset his loss and also outproduce the Nets stars. Keep an eye on the glass and second-chance points as that’s where the Bucks can make up ground.
