Monday, December 13th, finds the Milwaukee Bucks facing the Boston Celtics for the second time this season. Boston won the initial match 122-113 in overtime on November 12th however both Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton were sidelined.
Boston last played on Friday losing 90-111 to the Suns and marking their third loss in a row while the Bucks played Sunday in a 112-97 victory over the Knicks.
The Celtics hold the all-time record between the clubs with 113 wins in 220 meetings versus the Bucks. Last season, the teams played on three occasions with the Celtics two of the three contests.
Milwaukee Bucks
With the Bucks key trio of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday and healthy and back together on the hardwood this team is looking much more like the squad who won the 2021 title.
Although they could use Brook Lopez and Donte DiVincenzo their roles are being adequately filled by Bobby Portis and Grayson Allen. That’s what good teams with quality strategy and sound identities do.
Against the Knicks who admittedly were shorthanded the Bucks went to work with seven scoring in double-figures. Antetokounmpo led the way with a 20 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds triple-double.
Middleton led scoring with 24 points while Holiday was his typical self registering 13 points, four rebounds, five assists, and a steal. Portis collected a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds (five OR).
Rodney Hood (14), Grayson Allen (12) and Pat Connaughton (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
It was the Bucks 10th win in 12 games and with both the Bulls and Heat dealing with injuries (or COVID) it’s likely the Bucks will use this next schedule segment to take a run at the Nets for the top spot and put some distance between them and everyone else.
Semi Ojeleye (calf) is questionable for Monday while Wes Matthews is in quarantine to meet the NBA health and safety protocols after the Bucks inked him to a deal to bolster their depth.
Donte DiVincenzo (ankle) continues to work back from offseason surgery while Brook Lopez had back surgery with hopes he’ll be able to return for the postseason.
Boston Celtics
On the opposite end of the spectrum to the Bucks is the Celtics. A team most analysts projected to be among the upper echelon but has struggled to find consistency or cement who they are.
While Jaylen Brown has missed more (14) games than he’s played (13) overall the Celtics haven’t suffered nearly as many injuries as their counterparts and have.
Of the eight players Ime Udoka utilizes the most aside from Brown only Josh Richardson has missed more than one or two games (not counting four rest games for Horford) and even then it was limited to seven.
What’s baffling is the Celtics have a system and identity. Sure there are a few new players but the core remained intact and they even brought back Horford.
So it’s head-scratching this team at times can look so confused with each other or go through long stretches where they can’t score. They enter this match having lost three games in a row and six of their last nine.
Phoenix was missing starters Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton but it made no difference as they dissected the Celtics outscoring them 111 to 90. Tatum scored 24 while Dennis Schroder (15) and Robert Williams (10) were the only other double-figure contributors.

Free Milwaukee Bucks vs. Boston Celtics NBA Prediction:
Every once and while the Celtics play looking like the team pundits predicted they would be and it’s the big marquee contests where that typically occurs.
Milwaukee is 2-2 on second games of back-to-backs but Holiday/Middleton were out in the loss to the Jazz and Antetokounmpo in the loss to the Raptors. They look like champions lately both in their game play and their presence – the swagger if you will.
