Friday, November 12th, finds the Milwaukee Bucks facing the Boston Celtics for the first time this season.
Both clubs delivered wins on Wednesday with the Bucks defeating the Knicks and the Celtics getting payback for opening night with a rout of the Raptors.
The Celtics hold the all-time record between the clubs with 112 wins in 219 meetings. Last season, the teams played three times with the Celtics taking all two of the three contests.
Milwaukee Bucks
The Bucks were suffering deja vu as the Knicks wiped away a 24-point lead and threatened to steal the match. On Friday the Knicks had erased a 21 point lead and stole the win but Pat Connaughton wasn’t having it.
Connaughton was blistering hot from deep particularly in the fourth quarter when he scored five of his seven 3-pointers. During a period of just over a minute and a half in clutch time, he drilled three 3-pointers to cement the win.
Although Giannis Antetokounmpo flirted with a triple-double (15 points, 15 rebounds, 8 assists, steal, 2 blocks) he also tweaked his ankle which could force him to miss this match.
Jrue Holiday (18 points, six assists), Grayson Allen (15), and Bobby Portis (17) were the other double-figure scoring contributors.
Antetokounmpo (ankle) is probable while Brook Lopez (back) is listed as questionable. Donte DiVincenzo (ankle) and Khris Middleton (COVID) remain out indefinitely.
Boston Celtics
Payback was in full effect on Wednesday as the Celtics pummelled the Raptors who had beaten them by over 30 points in the home opener at TD Garden. They exacted their revenge despite missing Jaylen Brown.
All five starters plus Josh Richardson scored in double-figures. Jayson Tatum (22 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists, steal) and Robert Williams (16 points, 13 rebounds, assist, 2 steals, block) both registered double-doubles.
Dennis Schroder (20), Josh Richardson (15), and Marcus Smart (13) were the other double-digit scorers.
After the Celts lost to the Bulls dropping to 2-5, Smart commented on Tatum/Brown needed to pass more. In reality, I think he was implying they needed to put the team ahead of themselves.
Whether you agree with his methods or not the Celts are 1-3 since his comments and more importantly are drastically different defensively.
Case in point— through November 2nd, Boston allowed opponents to score 119.7 but in the last four games are only allowing an average of 88 opponent points.
The one game they lost was to the Mavericks when Luka Doncic buried them once again on a walk-off game-winning buzzer-beater. Coincidentally, Dallas was also the only opponent of the four to score over 100 points.
Jaylen Brown suffered a hamstring injury that will keep him out for a minimum of two weeks.

Free Milwaukee Bucks vs. Boston Celtics NBA Prediction:
To start the season both clubs struggled and have each looked better lately. It will come down to who stays truest to their strengths — if Bucks score to their average (108.1 points) they win but if the Celts hold them under 100 – they’ll win.
Additionally, the Bucks are 5-2 on the road, while the Celtics are 1-3 at home so I’m leaning Milwaukee
