Friday, January 22nd, the Miami Heat and Toronto Raptors will play for the second time in three days. The Heat took the opening match 111-102.
Last season, the squads played three times with the Heat winning two of the three contests. Miami holds the all-time record between the squads with 55 victories in the team’s 90 meetings.
Miami Heat
Jimmy Butler and Avery Bradley are still out dealing with the league COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
Neither made the trip to Tampa Bay and while it’s not far given both teams are currently playing out of Florida with the Heat winning the first match there isn’t a need to rush them back either.
After three consecutive losses, the Heat got back on track winning two in a row despite missing so many of their core players.
Coinciding with the two wins was the breakthrough of Kendrick Nunn who scored double-figures in both matches which he’d only done once in his six prior games.
In the win versus Toronto, he delivered 28 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and a steal. His perimeter shot was working (4 of 6) but he mixed it in with equal aplomb driving the paint.
Bam Adebayo registered a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds along with seven assists. Goran Dragic (17), Kelly Olynyk (15), Duncan Robinson (14), and Andre Iguodala (13) were the other double-figure contributors.
Dragic (foot contusion) and Gabe Vincent (sore knee) are probable while Chris Silva (hip) and Tyler Herro (neck) are questionable for Friday.
Butler/Bradley (health and safety) and Meyers Leonard (shoulder) are out indefinitely.
Toronto Raptors
Prior to the loss Wednesday, the Raptors had strung together five games where they looked much more similar to the team everyone expected to show up this season and had won three-in-a-row.
Perhaps knowing the Heat were so shorthanded had a psychological effect as Toronto looked like a different club.
One notable was Pascal Siakam went down awkwardly and although he stayed in the game may not be able to play Friday.
Coach Nick Nurse was furious because the play his star got hurt on he was definitely fouled and it was committed by Heat rookie Precious Achiuwa but no call was made.
It was the type of landing where you hold your breath because numerous players have torn their ACL or suffered bad injuries from similar falls.
Miami’s zone seemed to bother Toronto who was led by Fred VanVleet with 24 points, nine assists, and five rebounds. OG Anunoby and Siakam each scored 18 and Terence Davis added 16 off the bench.
Siakam (groin) is questionable while Patrick McCaw has yet to play since offseason knee surgery.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Over is 6-2 in MIA last 8 road games.
- TOR are 2-10 ATS in their last 12 home games
- Over is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings
Free Miami Heat vs. Toronto Raptors NBA Prediction:
If you’re watching a Raptors home game turn up the sound and you’ll hear the few people allowed to attend cheering for the opponent.
Although the Raptors are tough mentally it can’t be easy to be playing games with that dynamic especially when Toronto fans are definitely in the top group of the NBA.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Raptors ATS
Nurse’s staff will view film and figure out how to address the Heat zone that plagued them. That said, if Siakam can’t go it’ll free up Adebayo and favor Miami winning. Either way, it should be a gritty, physical dog fight.
