Wednesday, December 15th, finds the Miami Heat facing the Philadelphia 76ers for the first meeting this season. The clubs will play an additional three times with one more meeting in Philly on March 21st and Miami hosting games on January 15th and March 5th.
Both teams last played on Monday with Miami notching a 94-105 losing effort to the Cavaliers while Philly playing without Joel Embiid lost to the Grizzlies 91-126.
Last season, the teams played three times with the 76ers winning two of the three contests. The Heat holds the all-time record having bested the 76ers in 65 of their 127 matches
Miami Heat
Through 28 games this season the Heat have lost on 12 occasions with half against teams from the West and half in the East but only one opponent has defeated the Heat twice — the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Although it would be a disservice to the Cavaliers to simply say Miami lost because they are missing core players it’s nonetheless important to recognize Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo would make a difference.
The Heat drops to fifth swapping places with the Cavs while the Nets, Bulls, and Bucks are the top three East seeds and the Warriors, Suns, Jazz, and Grizzlies top four West seeds.
Miami (8-4) has performed the best against those top eight seeds with two of those losses against the Cavs and all four since Adebayo and Butler were injured. Brooklyn is 2-5 (and were 0-6) but has two wins versus Cleveland.
The Bulls (3-2) and Bucks (2-1) records showcase their ease of prior schedule with just five and three games respectively against the other top seven seeds. And before everyone jumps on the Cavs bandwagon they are 1-8 versus that group with the lone win against the shorthanded Bulls.
Heading into this match there are five players are out and Tyler Herro (quad) is questionable. Butler (tailbone), Adebayo (thumb), Caleb Martin (quarantine), Markieff Morris (neck), and Victor Oldadipo (knee) are out.
Philadelphia 76ers
After the big win Saturday and seemingly making up ground on the Nets and Bucks, the 76ers weren’t able to build upon that momentum losing in spectacular fashion to Memphis.
The Grizzlies are winning regardless of who plays and haven’t had their superstar Ja Morant for nine games but are 8-1 through that segment. Philly can’t say the same as they are 3-8 without Joel Embiid who sat due to rib soreness along with Seth Curry.
Tyrese Maxey was the top 76ers scorer with 23 points plus seven assists while Charles Bassey posted a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Shake Milton (12), Tobias Harris (12), and Furkan Korkmaz (10) were the other double-figure contributors. Trades for Ben Simmons become more likely now that the calendar has hit December 15th as that means any player traded in the offseason can be included in deals now.
Embiid (ribs), Seth Curry (shoulder), and Jaden Springer (concussion) are all questionable for Wednesday. Simmons (suspension) remains away from the team and Grant Riller (shoulder) remains out with no definitive return date.
NBA Betting Trends:

Free Miami Heat vs. Philadelphia 76ers NBA Prediction:
With so many players either out or questionable both teams could be working with short benches. Ultimately, if Embiid plays it gives the 76ers the best player on the court and the better chance of winning.
Let’s assume that was a one-game rest but if injury updates suggest Embiid and Curry are out then it’s a coin flip and I’d lean to Miami.
