On Tuesday, January 12th the Philadelphia 76ers will play host to the Miami Heat as the teams meet for the first time of the 2020-21 campaign.
The Heat was scheduled to play the Boston Celtics on Sunday but the match was postponed due to Miami not having enough available players to meet the league-mandated minimum of eight.
To that end, this contest may suffer a similar fate given the numerous players who’ll be in quarantine.
As per above the Heat – Celtics match was postponed and as of this posting Miami is uncertain if they’ll have eight players available Tuesday. For the moment the team is still in their Boston hotel trying to figure out the next steps.

Worse still, core stars Jimmy Butler Bam Adebayo, and Goran Dragic were added to the list after contract tracing was completed.
They joined four players who were already addressing the league health and safety protocols including Kendrick Nunn, Mo Harkless, KZ Okpala, and Udonis Haslem
The first player to be put in quarantine was Avery Bradley so perhaps he was patient zero.
Players not on the list are Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson, Precious Achiuwa, Kelly Olynyk, Andre Iguodala, Myers Leonard, and Chris Silva from the varsity team as well as both two-way contracted players Gabe Vincent and Max Strus.
That’s nine players, however, two of those players aren’t a guarantee as Leonard is dealing with a shoulder injury and Vincent has missed the last four games due to knee soreness.
If both can’t play then it would rule out the Heat for Tuesday.
The game versus the Hawks went ahead with the 76ers having nine players available including Joel Embiid and Mike Scott who both returned from injury.
Like the Heat, the 76ers are also dealing with an outbreak of COVID-19 after Seth Curry tested positive and four others had to go into the health and safety protocols due to contact.
The 76ers won the first and final frames but lost the middle frames 33 to 69 and that was all the Hawks needed to take the game 112 – 94.
Embiid played only 23 minutes but delivered a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds. Isaiah Joe scored 18 off the bench while Tyrese Maxey (15), and Dakota Mathias (14) were the other double-figure contributors.
Doc Rivers noted in his postgame interview that he hopes to Simmons back for the match Tuesday. Presumably, the other seven players who were out Monday will also be out Tuesday.
Ben Simmons (knee), Terrance Ferguson (personal), Furkan Korkmaz (groin), and the five players dealing with the COVID-19 protocols including Curry, Tobias Harris, Shake Milton, Matisse Thybulle, and Vincent Poirier.

Free Miami Heat vs. Philadelphia 76ers NBA Prediction:
The spread has shifted from 3.5 to 1.5 for the Heat and if confirmation of Simmons returning occurs before game time the odds could shift in favor of Philly.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: 76ers +1.5
For now, the game hasn’t been postponed, and assuming the teams play, with the personnel who are out for Miami, I’m leaning more in favor of the 76ers.
