Saturday, May 15th finds the Miami Heat and the Milwaukee Bucks meeting for the third and final time this season. The clubs split their prior two matches played December 29th and 30th which seems like eons ago.
The Heat holds the all-time record between the clubs with 71 wins in 117 meetings. Last season the squads faced each other three times with the Heat winning two contests and also knocking the Bucks out of the postseason defeating them 4-1.
Miami Heat
Anyone wondering why the Heat keeps 40-year old Udonis Haslem on the roster year after year got a first-hand look on Thursday.
Joel Embiid had fallen on Trevor Ariza who took exception and Haslem spoke to him during a break. In truth, it didn’t look like an intentional action by Embiid. Shortly after Haslem checked into the game for the first time this season and scored two quick buckets.
Then Dwight Howard as he is wont to do decided to play the role of enforcer and threw Haslem to the ground. But, the veteran got in his face getting ejected shortly afterward. Howard also picked up a tech (his 16th) so had to sit out the Friday match versus the Magic.
While it was only four points and he played only three minutes it was quite possibly the most important time spent on the court Thursday as it sent the 76ers a message that the Heat aren’t afraid of them and will deliver as good as they get.
And it worked, firing up the Heat who went on to win 106-94. Miami has won four in a row and eight of their last 10. As of posting, the Heat are fifth, a half-game back of the Hawks (who own the tiebreak) and are deadlocked with the Knicks who they own the tiebreaker against.
Kendrick Nunn (calf soreness) is questionable for Saturday. Victor Oladipo had season-ending surgery on his right quadriceps tendon.
Milwaukee Bucks
Milwaukee is currently third, a game back of the second-place Nets, and two games back of the first-place 76ers.
Although a long shot the Bucks are keeping their eyes set on the top of the Eastern Conference. They hold the tiebreaker versus both Philly and Brooklyn.
Usurping the 76ers will be tough given they play Orlando twice and need one win to clinch the conference.
Catching Brooklyn who’ll play the Bulls and Cav is more likely, but again not a given. Milwaukee has won seven of eight and is building momentum heading into the postseason.
In the last seven games, Giannis Antetokounmpo is averaging 31.4 points, 10 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.9 blocks.
Axel Toupane was out on Thursday due to an oblique injury. The Bucks hadn’t submitted their report as of this posting but let’s assume he’s questionable.
Betting Trends:
- The Heat are 7-3 in their last 10 head to head meetings
- The Heat are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 head to head meetings
- Over/Under is 5-5 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
- The Bucks are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games.
- The Heat are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games.
Free Miami Heat vs. Milwaukee Bucks NBA Prediction:
Perhaps the two teams who’ll enter the postseason as the hottest Eastern clubs are the Heat and Bucks. There are still questions to be answered from Milwaukee and coach Bud’s ability to adapt. Personally, I’d take Erik Spoelstra 100 times out of 100 times.
The Heat have been ticking off their Eastern counterparts of late with wins versus the Nets (April 18th), and in the last three games beat the Celtics (twice) and 76ers. The next team on their list is the Bucks and although they’ve been feasting too Miami is suddenly looking like that team from the bubble.
