Wednesday, March 17th, finds the Miami Heat on the road to play the Memphis Grizzlies playing for the first time this season. The last time these teams played each other was 15 months ago.
The Heat holds the all-time advantage with a record of 27 wins in the 47 matches played. Last season, the squads played twice each winning once.
Miami Heat
The Heat are one of the hottest teams in the NBA having won 11 of their last 12 games and bring a five-game win streak into Memphis.
This will be a test however as the Heat are playing the second game of a back-to-back set.
That said, the front game was won in relatively easy fashion. Part of the reason why may be due to the return of Bam Adebayo who had missed the four previous games nursing knee tendinitis.
Adebayo looked sharp and came close to registering a double-double with 14 points, nine rebounds, and six assists.
Leader Jimmy Butler did reach that benchmark with 28 points and 12 points along with four assists, and two steals
Kelly Olynyk (17), Tyler Herro (15), Duncan Robinson (14), and Kendrick Nunn (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
While the Heat got back their other superstar Avery Bradley remains out having missed his 19th game in a row due to a strained calf.
Memphis Grizzlies
On the opposite end of the spectrum, the Grizzlies have lost three games in a row and four of their last five. Diving deeper at those losses offers realistic defeats to the upper-tier teams like the Bucks, Nuggets, and Suns.
However, for the Grizzlies to take another step up the ladder they have to consistently beat the lower tier teams. That’s why the loss to OKC was troubling.
Four-fifths of the usual OKC starting lineup was sidelined. The replacements included a 19-year rookie, two players recently returned from the G-League debuting as starters, and a deep bench reserve.
Moreover, OKC was playing on consecutive days but looked like the more experienced better-rested team scoring 128 points (this from the 28th ranked offense).
In the loss to the Suns, Jonas Valanciunas registered another massive double-double of 24 points and 17. Ja Morant and Grayson Allen each scored 15 while Dillon Brooks was the other double-figure scorer with 13.
Jaren Jackson (knee) remains out but is expected to make a return at some stage in the second half.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Heat are 7-3 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
- The Heat are 6-3-1 ATS in the last 10 head to head meetings
- The over-under is 7-3 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
Free Miami Heat vs. Memphis Grizzlies NBA Prediction:
Memphis ranks first in the NBA for scoring in the paint with 56 PIP per game. Conversely, the Heat is the best at protecting the paint allowing the fewest points scored in this area (40.0).
The Grizzlies are due for a win so I’m banking on the rest and young legs to be the difference since the paint pressure Memphis will put on Miami may not show up through three-quarters but by the final frame it’ll take a toll on the Heat.
