Saturday, October 30th finds the Miami Heat facing the Memphis Grizzlies in their first of two games this season.
The Heat arrives to finish the second game of a back-to-back set having played and won versus the Hornets on Friday. The Grizzlies are riding high having ended the Warriors’ unbeaten streak via a loss to the Grizz in OT on Thursday.
Last season, the teams played twice with the Grizzlies taking both contests. The Heat holds the all-time record having bested the Grizzlies in 27 of their 49 matches
Miami Heat
Time and again you’ll hear that defense wins championships and that’s precisely what the Heat bring to the court with the top-ranked defense in the association. They allow the fewest opponent points (95.8) per game.
Further evidence of the Heat defensive prowess is the sheer number of categories where they rank in the top five.
Miami ranks third for fewest opponent points scored off turnovers (12.6), fewest second chance opponent points (7.6), and the fourth-fewest opponent points in the paint (40.4).
Charlotte is one of the top offenses but Miami held them under 100 points (99). The Heat quartet of Bam Adebayo, Jimmy Butler, Kyle Lowry, and Tyler Herro continue to be the key for Erik Spoelstra.
Adebayo (26 points, 19 rebounds) and Butler (32 points, 10 rebounds) registered double-doubles. Herro is embracing the Sixth Man role scoring 26 points in the win.
Lowry offered four points, six rebounds, five assists, a steal, and a block. Although he’s not hunting his own shots there is a palpable difference in how the Heat’s offense flows when he’s on the court.
Memphis Grizzlies
It’s likely the Grizz are still on a cloud over their huge comeback versus the Warriors. Ja Morant continues his superstar ascent leading his team to the victory versus the Warriors and simultaneously serving up the Dubs’ first loss of the season.
Morant led the way for Memphis in the victory scoring 30 points, adding seven rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Desmond Bane (19), Jaren Jackson Jr. (15), and Steven Adams (12) were the other double-figure scorers.
While the balanced scoring helped it was the defensive effort by the Grizzlies that stood out holding the Warriors to 101 points (with an overtime frame). Memphis fell behind by 19 but chipped away at the lead forcing 23 turnovers that led to 22 points.
Other factors that stood out were the Grizzlies won the glass (51 to 48) and moved the ball (25 assists). The Grizz also limited two areas the Warriors typically dominate – – fast break scoring (11 to 19) and scoring in the paint (46 to 48).
Memphis ranks fifth offensively and 26th defensively but it was the latter area of their game that made the difference as they limited Golden State to 19 points in the final frame and three points in overtime.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Heat are 6-4 in the last 10 head to head
- The Heat are 6-4 ATS in their last 10 meetings.
- Over Under is 7-3 in the teams last 10 head to head matchups
Free Miami Heat vs. Memphis Grizzlies NBA Prediction:
With the win Friday, the Heat moved into a four-way tie for first in the East while the Grizzlies are in a fifth-place tie with the Kings in the West.
Memphis has the rest advantage however, this is where Lowry could have a huge impact. During his tenure with the Raptors he often played better in the second games of back-to-backs. He hasn’t shot the ball well yet, but it wouldn’t be surprising if this was his break-out game.
