On Friday, March 26th, the Miami Heat meets the Charlotte Hornets for the second time this season. In the first meeting on February 1st, the Hornets won 129-121
Last season, the squads played twice and each won a game. The Heat hold the all-time record having won 66 matches of the 111 played.
Miami Heat
The Heat was among the more active teams participating at the trade deadline although they didn’t make the one move most expected to bring Kyle Lowry to Miami.
When the Raptors and Heat couldn’t agree on a trade package, Miami shifted their focus to add Victor Oladipo instead sending out Kelly Olynyk and Avery Bradley.
The under the radar move which may pay dividends was the pick-up of Nemanja Bjelica for Chris Silva and Mo Harkless. Bjelica offers a big who can spread the court, rebound, and defend. Miami is also expected to land LaMarcus Aldrige via the buyout market.
After getting back on track and climbing all the way up to the fourth seed the Heat have faltered dropping five games in-a-row with the most recent occurring against the Blazers on Thursday night.
Miami only had nine players available via a combination of the trades of the day, injuries and virus-related absences. Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro each scored 29 points to lead the Heat.
Kendrick Nunn (22) and Duncan Robinson (12) were the other double-figure scorers.
Jimmy Butler (illness), Goran Dragic (back), Udonis Haslem (protocols), and KZ Okpala (protocols) all missed the match Thursday and are listed as being out Friday as well. It’s unknown whether Oladipo or Bjelica will be with the team on Friday.
Charlotte Hornets
The Hornets arrive at this match sitting in the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference but knowing they’ll be without the services of their young star LaMelo Ball for at least the next month.
The rookie underwent wrist surgery and will be reevaluated in four weeks.
With Ball out Devonte Graham returned to the starting rotation in the match versus the Rockets and made the most of his minutes scoring 21 points with two rebounds and three assists.
Terry Rozier led the Hornets in scoring with 25 points. Malik Monk scored 19 points off the bench while P.J. Washington scored 12 as the only other double-figure contributor.
The Hornets bench scored 44 points in the win versus the Rockets with seven of the nine players who played contributing to the point tally.
Cody Zeller who had missed two games with a shoulder injury scored eight points and added seven rebounds. Speaking of big men, Charlotte is on the short list of teams Andre Drummond says he’ll speak to once the Cavaliers buy-out his contract.

Free Miami Heat vs. Charlotte Hornets NBA Prediction:
While Ball is a rookie his impact on the Hornets is substantial so we’ll have to see whether the Hornets continue to utilize ball movement without him. After this match and a game versus the Suns the Hornets will hit the road for six games.

The Heat are spiraling and reemphasis the importance of Jimmy Butler — without Butler the Heat are 4-11 so if he’s out the Hornets have the edge.
