On Sunday, May 9th the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics will play the first of two games that will complete their season series. In the first meeting between the clubs on January 6th, the Celtics came out victorious taking the match 107-105 in a nailbiter.
These teams are locked in a battle for the sixth and seventh seeds and both are trying to move up primarily to stay out of the play-in tournament.
The Celtics hold the all-time record between the clubs with 76 in 124 meetings. Last season, the teams played three times with Boston winning two of three games in the series.
While the Heat has struggled to find constancy they’ve taken advantage of an easier stretch schedule collecting a 14-7 record during that span with nine of those victories against lower seeds.
Tyler Herro made a splash in his return to the Heat lineup. After missing six games Herro scored 27 points against the Wolves as the high point-getter.
Jimmy Butler offered his typical leadership on both sides of the court with 25 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and five steals.
Goran Dragic was the third Heat player to clear 20 points with 23. Bam Adebayo (15), and Kendrick Nunn (12) were the other double-figure contributors.
Since being traded to the Heat, Victor Oladipo has only appeared in four games. He’ll miss his 16th consecutive game nursing a knee injury.
Oladipo had made it clear he wanted to play with Miami long before his trade to Houston so the fact he’s unable to get on the court with this knee injury could be a problem when he tries to renegotiate his contract this offseason.
Andre Iguodala (thigh) is questionable for Sunday.
The Celtics appear to be headed toward ending the season the same way they started which is by being inconsistent. Although the Beantown crew seems to be getting closer to finding the balance of offensive chemistry and diligent defense there are still lapses.
Losing to the OKC Thunder who had lost 14 games in a row was one example. Since that match, the Celtics won three of their next five but the most recent game featured another stumble as they fell to the Bulls in another blowout (99-121).
In the loss to the Bulls, Kemba Walker led the way with 33 points while Evan Fournier scored 17 points. They were the only two Celtics to score in double-figures.
Jayson Tatum added nine points but continues to be inconsistent which is likely a product of the long hauler issues associated with having COVID.
Jaylen Brown will miss his third game after that awkward crash with Tatum at the end of the Blazers match. Robert Williams III (foot) is probable for Sunday.
NBA Betting Trends:

- Over/Under is 5-4-1 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
Free Miami Heat vs. Boston Celtics NBA Prediction:
The tiebreaker will be decided in these next two games with the Heat needing to win both and the Celtics just need one. More importantly, the teams are trying to avoid the play-in where the Celtics are currently positioned (seventh).
Expect a physical, play-off type game with plenty of intensity.
